I have the prince of tides out from the library! Haven’t started it yet but my one friend loves him.
I read Beach Music and loved it!
Great author. Read Beach Music as it it fabulous/ I have recommended Beach Music to both men and women and everyone loved it. I think it is as good as The Thorn Birds, Gone With the Wind, to name a few.
I loved The Great Santini and The Lords of Discipline.
Loved his writing! Have read every book he wrote!
I have read his entire collection. I love each one of them!!!
What book do you recommend starting with? I read and loved all of Anne Rivers Siddons books and have heard that he is a similar author.

This was the very first book, since this story I became a fan of Pat Conroy. Actually I’m reading again his last book named “The Death of Santini” ….

I love the way he write… He can hypnotize me with his exquisite vocabulary… I must confess that I never get tire to read any of his ? books.
So far I’d never read another writer who describe the south the way he does. He’s capable to make feel the reader that belong to this place. It’s magical!!!
@Pedro Yes – his love of language, his settings and descriptive ability. He writes with mind pictures. A visual author.
@Lee Oh yes few writer have the ability to transport the readers to another dimension or different places out of our mind.
Prince of Tides, The Water Is Wide, My Reading Life are 3 of my favorite books!
I liked “Beach Music” and “The Prince of Tides,” although they are both incredibly sad. I also liked his autobiography “My Losing Season” about playing basketball at The Citadel and dealing with a physically abusive father. His father was no doubt a basis for many of his characters.
His Father always had a terrible remarkable influence in Pat Conroy’s life… Each obscure or bad character scene or dramatic story is related about his own father ….
I believe that he wrote a lot about his father trying exorcise his own demons and in some way trying to heal so many scars from his mind and soul…

It’s a good one. This book was a huge susses and also was terrible scandal to his entire family …
The book made me cry and laugh long and loudly. The movie was quite good. I am a very big Robert Duvall fan. Who else could have been Boo Radley??
@Tracy I believe that Robert Duvall was nominated as Best Actor from the Academy Awards “The Oscar” in 1981 for “The Great Santini” .-
You are correct Pedro. And of course his incredible acting in The Godfather. Not my favourite movie(the violence OUCH).

THE WATER IS WIDE is one of my favorites. I live in South Carolina so Pat Conroy’s books are well liked here. He was such an interesting character.

Did you know that Pat Conroy lived in Rome from the beginning of the 80’s. Living in Rome, Italy after his first divorce inspired him to write “Beach Music”

@Tracy I’d read all of them; Certainly I did it ! Margaret Michel was who wrote Gone with the Wind was a remarkable writer. She won the Putlizer. Unfortunately she passed away in a car accident. She barely could wrote this named masterpiece!
@Pedro Miss Mitchell wrote that one book that is still read and talked about today!!! Daphne du Maurier, “Last night I dreamt of going to Manderley again”. Does that not give you the chills(in a good way)??

@Pedro I always cry when I think of Boo Radley, he was so lonely and sad before Scout and Jem came into his life. I also cry whenever I watch “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer”. How terrible to be made to feel less that normal. Humanity can make the world a cruel cold place,
