I have no kids sooo maybe have them buried with me and hide a treasure map. When they find it they will find me guarding my treasure. Dark right.

You should then do it right and bury it somewhere accessible, then hide the treasure map in your favourite book at the local library ?

My girls are now old enough to respect and even appreciate my collection. They know to call John King Books here in the Detroit area for assessment, and which books I want them to donate to our local library. ?

My cousin has a daughter who reads almost as much as I did at her age… She can have mine… Although, my minion will probably claim my Piers Anthony collection for himself.

Hmmm. Ok. But I have rules. No places with children. My god the library books I see after my little brothers have them for a week would break your heart.

Oh I already know. I’m going to be 51 this year. I HAVE to know, my life expectancy gets shorter by the day. All but my vintage & antique books will be donated to: the campus library where I’m getting my AA(because I’m still really sentimental about this place, they’ve been good to me), or the thrift store that benefits my local battered women’s shelter. My vintage/antique medically related books will stay in the family, & I have 2 that date back to the 1800’s. My “witchy” books will go to friends who are also witches, along with my various spiritual paraphernalia. The remaining antique books of mine will be split between my 5 children, to be passed down. Some of them also date back to the 1800’s, like my 1897 first printing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which I inherited from my best friend who passed away, it’ll be 12 years ago in September.

They would go into my son’s godmother’s keeping until he grew up enough to appreciate them.

I’d like to have mine donated to a hospital so parents and teenagers can have something to read while their loved ones are asleep both patient and visitor would have access to them.

Being in my 30s I did not think of this, of course ppl pass away at any age.
To answer to yr question, I would prefer each family member, friend to pick in an intuitive way one of the books and read it. I trust that the particular book will have the right message according to the search of their soul.

I have thought about that! In any books I hope they would keep, I have put a short note about why the book meant something to me. My boys are free to then keep them or donate as they will. I hope they might keep a few. 😀

We cremate our dead.
Although there are both systems of cremation, electric and wood, I’d tell my family to use my books for cremating me as I’ve already used up my share of wood on this earth.

I have my grandmother’s books (and bookcase) So, everything, including the new bookcases go to my children. If nothing else, it will be my legacy to my grandchildren so they can learn what their grandfather and great grandmother enjoyed reading. (Also have my grandmother’s collection of post cards – used and not used so they will have something to see that she actually had/ read/ looked at / liked etc.

I’ve already told my son to do something worthwhile with them – donate to library or nursing home but not to throw them out.

I’ve created a list of the more valuable books–stuff worth one hundred dollars and up–for my kids, so that when I shuffle off this vale of tears, they’ll know what’s worth something. I figure they’ll take the books they want and sell the rest, some in bulk, some singly. And that’s fine with me.

My eldest niece was going to inherit everything of mine but I disowned her mom and have no communication, so maybe when she’s 18 and can reach out to me, she can still receive my things

my daughter enjoys some of the same authors as I do, I am already giving her some of his books when she visits, unfortunately I know of no one else that likes the genres I enjoy, so I suppose the rest will be donated to the library. there are some that are meaningful to me, that I wish I could give to someone who would cherish them as I have, but…

Good thought. As the Books editor for a major ISP for 35 years (AOL/CompuServe), I gave thousands of books to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, etc., over the years. They always appreciated them.

As of now, my eldest daughter will have my library. My youngest daughter is not a big reader, so she’ll only want a few of the books (she does love Shakespeare and would want those). Later on I hope I have grandchildren that will want some of the library too.
