My girls are now old enough to respect and even appreciate my collection. They know to call John King Books here in the Detroit area for assessment, and which books I want them to donate to our local library. ?
College is a waste. Spend it on books and tell them it’s a sound investment lol. Plus To Be Fair My Country Will Most Likely fracture soon and we will be bombed by North Korea. So get them books ??
My cousin has a daughter who reads almost as much as I did at her age… She can have mine… Although, my minion will probably claim my Piers Anthony collection for himself.
Hmmm. Ok. But I have rules. No places with children. My god the library books I see after my little brothers have them for a week would break your heart.
Oh I already know. I’m going to be 51 this year. I HAVE to know, my life expectancy gets shorter by the day. All but my vintage & antique books will be donated to: the campus library where I’m getting my AA(because I’m still really sentimental about this place, they’ve been good to me), or the thrift store that benefits my local battered women’s shelter. My vintage/antique medically related books will stay in the family, & I have 2 that date back to the 1800’s. My “witchy” books will go to friends who are also witches, along with my various spiritual paraphernalia. The remaining antique books of mine will be split between my 5 children, to be passed down. Some of them also date back to the 1800’s, like my 1897 first printing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which I inherited from my best friend who passed away, it’ll be 12 years ago in September.
I’d like to have mine donated to a hospital so parents and teenagers can have something to read while their loved ones are asleep both patient and visitor would have access to them.
Being in my 30s I did not think of this, of course ppl pass away at any age. To answer to yr question, I would prefer each family member, friend to pick in an intuitive way one of the books and read it. I trust that the particular book will have the right message according to the search of their soul.
I have thought about that! In any books I hope they would keep, I have put a short note about why the book meant something to me. My boys are free to then keep them or donate as they will. I hope they might keep a few. 😀
We cremate our dead. Although there are both systems of cremation, electric and wood, I’d tell my family to use my books for cremating me as I’ve already used up my share of wood on this earth.
I have my grandmother’s books (and bookcase) So, everything, including the new bookcases go to my children. If nothing else, it will be my legacy to my grandchildren so they can learn what their grandfather and great grandmother enjoyed reading. (Also have my grandmother’s collection of post cards – used and not used so they will have something to see that she actually had/ read/ looked at / liked etc.
I’ve created a list of the more valuable books–stuff worth one hundred dollars and up–for my kids, so that when I shuffle off this vale of tears, they’ll know what’s worth something. I figure they’ll take the books they want and sell the rest, some in bulk, some singly. And that’s fine with me.
My eldest niece was going to inherit everything of mine but I disowned her mom and have no communication, so maybe when she’s 18 and can reach out to me, she can still receive my things
my daughter enjoys some of the same authors as I do, I am already giving her some of his books when she visits, unfortunately I know of no one else that likes the genres I enjoy, so I suppose the rest will be donated to the library. there are some that are meaningful to me, that I wish I could give to someone who would cherish them as I have, but…
Good thought. As the Books editor for a major ISP for 35 years (AOL/CompuServe), I gave thousands of books to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, etc., over the years. They always appreciated them.
I’ve made my son swear that he keep all my books and if his GF or Wife ever demand he get rid of even one…get rid of her instead ??? he’s only 15 but he pinky swore he would ❤️❤️❤️
I am sure my daughter will donate everything she has no interest in….we already have all the books she has no interest in marked with stars so if I read them I can donate them now and get them out of the house….
I suppose my sibling would never sell my books, but I don’t know how about brother’s girlfriend… if they get marry, and I’d be dead, I’ll be haunting my house ever after if she’d even thought of getting rid of’em ???????
Yes. I hope to put in my will that my friends get first dibs on my collection. Then the rest should be donated to local libraries, and the science fiction and fantasy to my alma mater, UC Santa Cruz.
As of now, my eldest daughter will have my library. My youngest daughter is not a big reader, so she’ll only want a few of the books (she does love Shakespeare and would want those). Later on I hope I have grandchildren that will want some of the library too.
My brother died suddenly at age 50, he spoke 6 languages and loved reading in each one. He had hundreds of books and at his memorial service his books were there for everyone to take to remember him
I have no kids sooo maybe have them buried with me and hide a treasure map. When they find it they will find me guarding my treasure. Dark right.
You should then do it right and bury it somewhere accessible, then hide the treasure map in your favourite book at the local library ?
My girls are now old enough to respect and even appreciate my collection. They know to call John King Books here in the Detroit area for assessment, and which books I want them to donate to our local library. ?
I hope my son will grow up to be a reader too
My kids will know where all my money goes.
College is a waste. Spend it on books and tell them it’s a sound investment lol. Plus To Be Fair My Country Will Most Likely fracture soon and we will be bombed by North Korea. So get them books ??
My granddaughter hopefully will take care of my SK collection of books and movies. She knows of my love for SK.
Yes!
My cousin has a daughter who reads almost as much as I did at her age… She can have mine… Although, my minion will probably claim my Piers Anthony collection for himself.
Donate

I guess my boyfriend might keep it. I know my mom wouldn’t.
I’ve already told parents and brother that all the books my parents have go to me! Ill take books over jewelry any day!! ?
you got that right, so will I.
I have actually told my business partner and I put it into my will, that I would like a library open in my name after I die.
I hope it would be my 2 nephews who keep all my books
One of my best friends has written in his will that I get his book collection. Mine will pass on to my son.
My daughter gets mine, she knows my favorites. My family sees my library as an extension of me.
They would go into my son’s godmother’s keeping until he grew up enough to appreciate them.
I’d like to have mine donated to a hospital so parents and teenagers can have something to read while their loved ones are asleep both patient and visitor would have access to them.
Nope. Not my problem!?
Yes, I’m hoping one of my kids is a reader!
Being in my 30s I did not think of this, of course ppl pass away at any age.
To answer to yr question, I would prefer each family member, friend to pick in an intuitive way one of the books and read it. I trust that the particular book will have the right message according to the search of their soul.
Yes, I have made arrangements for my books.
I have thought about that! In any books I hope they would keep, I have put a short note about why the book meant something to me. My boys are free to then keep them or donate as they will. I hope they might keep a few. 😀
My daughter will get mine.

I don’t have children so my books go with me.
This made me go tell my husband: “When I die, I want my Kindle in the coffin with me!”
I have my grandmother’s books (and bookcase) So, everything, including the new bookcases go to my children. All goes to my daughter
Who cares you will be gone!
I so agree with you!
Thanks, they must do what they like!
Kids get what they want then they can distribute the rest
Probably a thrift store.
Fine with me. The more people who can enjoy them as I did the better.
Both my daughters love to read so they would get them.
Same here
I’ve already told my son to do something worthwhile with them – donate to library or nursing home but not to throw them out.

My daughter will take them. We’ve discussed this already, not that o plan on going anytime soon but I need to know my babies will be taken care of.
my daughter enjoys some of the same authors as I do, I am already giving her some of his books when she visits, unfortunately I know of no one else that likes the genres I enjoy, so I suppose the rest will be donated to the library. there are some that are meaningful to me, that I wish I could give to someone who would cherish them as I have, but…
I want to donate to a hospital. Sick people need to read. It offers an escape for all they’re going through.
Good thought. As the Books editor for a major ISP for 35 years (AOL/CompuServe), I gave thousands of books to hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, etc., over the years. They always appreciated them.
My best friend has claimed it and threatened bodily harm to anyone who would stand in his way.
My sister has said she’s calling 1-800-GOT JUNK for my whole apartment. 🙁
You should set up a will and tell that you want your books to go to a charity. Surely, someone will appreciate your books.
I’m hoping it will be donated to the local Literacy program.
I suppose my sibling would never sell my books, but I don’t know how about brother’s girlfriend… if they get marry, and I’d be dead, I’ll be haunting my house ever after if she’d even thought of getting rid of’em ???????
My kids said they will make my coffin out of books. ? Seriously though, my kids will go through them and take what they want and donate the rest.
Oh goodness, I don’t even know… My kids probably, since they’re finding a love for reading now.
It’ll go to my kids, probably my oldest son first. If they’re still young, I imagine my ex-wife will filter it before giving it to them.
Some of my kids are already requesting my cookbooks and daughter-in-law requested my mysteries 🙂
Don’t have kids, so I’m not sure.
Nieces, nephews, Godchildren, friends.
My family can keep the limited editions. But the rest better be donated! I don’t want them collecting dust.
My oldest daughter will get it. She is just as much of a bookworm as I am.
Library if kids do not want them
Public Library where I worked for 14 years
No one would want my books because very few people in my country reads German
Yes. I hope to put in my will that my friends get first dibs on my collection. Then the rest should be donated to local libraries, and the science fiction and fantasy to my alma mater, UC Santa Cruz.
To my daughter, the ones she doesn’t want she will give to a nursing home.
I’d probably leave mine to my niece and nephew to take what they want, and the rest can go to charity shops.
My husband claims he is going to have a yard sale and charge 1.00 per book. I have over 1600 books!
My daughter inherits.
My daughter is already dreading the idea…..
Try to find someone else who would like to have my collection to read but they must keep them and pass them on to someone else.
Neighborhood free for all! Truly, I want anyone who loves to read and wants my books to have them.
My nephew told me once, do you have any idea how much money we’d get for ALL your books!!
My daughter
Hospice
I am actually going to write a will to donate it to a public library or a scholl so other people will benefit from my collection and spread book love.
I like this idea…I am stealing it. Time to update my will so will be adding this to it.
I mean. I can’t picture children with sticky fingers and leaving them around to be ripped.
I’ve put in my will that my books go to an animal rescue bookshop.
It will probably go to my niece? Or any other big readers in my family.
I have to admit …. I thought about it earlier .. My future daughter will inherit it all…
I’ve thought of this! I was thinking of giving it to which ever one of my children who loves to read too
As of now, my eldest daughter will have my library. My youngest daughter is not a big reader, so she’ll only want a few of the books (she does love Shakespeare and would want those). Later on I hope I have grandchildren that will want some of the library too.
My brother died suddenly at age 50, he spoke 6 languages and loved reading in each one. He had hundreds of books and at his memorial service his books were there for everyone to take to remember him
My (two) sisters will inherit my collection of books and Disney plushies if something happens to me ?
