Slow start but once you get to page 100 you’re in for a good read

Oh good. It’s on my Kindle but just couldn’t get into it. I will try again…at least to page 100!

Agreed. I almost gave it up, but because a friend had lent me her book, I felt obligated to stick with it, and I am so glad I did! Still one of my favorite series of all time.

Such a good series. Don’t watch the show first.

I’d never do that. That would ruin the whole experience.

The tv series is progressively messing with the storyline, sadly.

Only got through about twenty pages, but some people loved it.

Rapey.

It makes me sad that so many recieve such joy from this, too. Rape.

There are some quite graphic rape events, and they feature prominently in storyline and character development. I’m not sure anyone would say those parts bring them joy.

WissameQuestion author

Didn’t know that!

1
Sandra

Can also be amended to say that there is a rapey villain in the first few books.

0
Rosemary

Promoting this book as something that I like would be the exact same as saying that I like rape as entertainment. This is what I mean. And I am totally NOT a prude, I just would like it if women stopped promoting this book as “fantastic, wonderful, I read it ten times already!!!”. It is like saying, “Weinstein is a wonderful man, he makes great movies!””

Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies

2
Sandra

Books are entertainment. And many of them have very disturbing elements. I think Pillars of the Earth is an amazing book and it has one of the most disturbing rape scenes I’ve encountered. Doesn’t mean I find rape entertaining. I have read and enjoyed books with murder, abuse, war, and illness. It doesn’t mean I enjoy or promote those things. It means that they can be part of and contribute to a greater storyline.

Rosemary

Sandra Sanfilippo On this topic, we will have to agree to disagree. This is why there are many different forms of entertainment available – for us to choose for ourselves.

I choose to not promote this sort of thing. 😀

Suzie

I heard there is a lot of rape in this series. I don’t know if I could deal with that.

If it’s a trigger for you, then definitely one to avoid.

You know the saying, “we vote with our dollar?” Well, in my opinion, and only in my opinion, promoting this book is exact the same as promoting rape as entertainment. If you want that general idea to be promoted in our society, then promote this book! We are all part of the great picture

It definitely has it’s evil villains, I think they add to the plot twists. And it also is quite detailed in medical terms. It can be addictive though!

I have to say though that this was the first set of Kindle books I bought. I wanted to have them available when I was traveling and it just worked out better. Then I bought Game of Thrones. 🙂

Gave up after the first book. It’s an overly long romance novel. Which I suppose is ok if you’re into that.

Yep, I found it cheesy.

I know a lot of people love these. For me personally I found the writing immature.

I suppose the outlander series is my guilty pleasure reading. It has its drama for the sake of more drama moments a lot and it has cliches in it, but personally I like the interactions between Jamie and Claire and will keep reading them. I do think the second book is the best one in the series. (I’ve read all 8 of them.)

It was too graphic in sexual violence for me

I didn’t mind the first one, second one was okay, third one was omg is it ever going to end, and then the rest of the series is just to much investment, the books are too long.
