Agreed. I almost gave it up, but because a friend had lent me her book, I felt obligated to stick with it, and I am so glad I did! Still one of my favorite series of all time.
There are some quite graphic rape events, and they feature prominently in storyline and character development. I’m not sure anyone would say those parts bring them joy.
Promoting this book as something that I like would be the exact same as saying that I like rape as entertainment. This is what I mean. And I am totally NOT a prude, I just would like it if women stopped promoting this book as “fantastic, wonderful, I read it ten times already!!!”. It is like saying, “Weinstein is a wonderful man, he makes great movies!””
Books are entertainment. And many of them have very disturbing elements. I think Pillars of the Earth is an amazing book and it has one of the most disturbing rape scenes I’ve encountered. Doesn’t mean I find rape entertaining. I have read and enjoyed books with murder, abuse, war, and illness. It doesn’t mean I enjoy or promote those things. It means that they can be part of and contribute to a greater storyline.
Sandra Sanfilippo On this topic, we will have to agree to disagree. This is why there are many different forms of entertainment available – for us to choose for ourselves.
You know the saying, “we vote with our dollar?” Well, in my opinion, and only in my opinion, promoting this book is exact the same as promoting rape as entertainment. If you want that general idea to be promoted in our society, then promote this book! We are all part of the great picture
I have to say though that this was the first set of Kindle books I bought. I wanted to have them available when I was traveling and it just worked out better. Then I bought Game of Thrones. 🙂
I suppose the outlander series is my guilty pleasure reading. It has its drama for the sake of more drama moments a lot and it has cliches in it, but personally I like the interactions between Jamie and Claire and will keep reading them. I do think the second book is the best one in the series. (I’ve read all 8 of them.)
I didn’t mind the first one, second one was okay, third one was omg is it ever going to end, and then the rest of the series is just to much investment, the books are too long.
Agree. Enjoyed the first two books and then found them too long. I typically relish a long book because I am a fast reader but for some reason these just didn’t hold me.
Slow start but once you get to page 100 you’re in for a good read
Oh good. It’s on my Kindle but just couldn’t get into it. I will try again…at least to page 100!
Agreed. I almost gave it up, but because a friend had lent me her book, I felt obligated to stick with it, and I am so glad I did! Still one of my favorite series of all time.
I did struggle through Dragonfly in Amber though
Agree with @Erica. Slow start buy oh so good
Oh Jamie- swoon!
My favorite series, by far!
First book in the series is the best, in my opinion. Enjoy!
Such a good series. Don’t watch the show first.
I’d never do that. That would ruin the whole experience.
The tv series is progressively messing with the storyline, sadly.
Only got through about twenty pages, but some people loved it.
Favorite series.
Best storie of all time !
Took me a while to get into it but after that…. I loved it. It’s one series I keep and read again every few years
My favorite series. I’ve read it multiple times. I reread every time a new book is published.
i enjoyed the first one immensely … and the read the next couple … but then it lost its luster …. haven’t read the last couple.
That Feeling When you read Outlander for the first time ?
Too rape-y for my tastes
Hoping the third time I try I can finally get past 50 pages….
Once she goes back in time it gets great. Get past that and you will be fine.
Ok. Thanks ?
It’s the best historical fiction
Rapey.
It makes me sad that so many recieve such joy from this, too. Rape.

Didn’t know that!
Can also be amended to say that there is a rapey villain in the first few books.

Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies

I choose to not promote this sort of thing. 😀
I heard there is a lot of rape in this series. I don’t know if I could deal with that.
If it’s a trigger for you, then definitely one to avoid.

Read them all!!!
I’ve read all the series so far and it is my favourite books. It has romance, war and a strong heroine. Claire and Jamie ?
Loved the first one but never finished the secnd and kind of lost interest
It definitely has it’s evil villains, I think they add to the plot twists. And it also is quite detailed in medical terms. It can be addictive though!
I couldn’t do it. Tried twice.
Didn’t like it but most do.
I liked that whole series. Time travel is fascinating.
So. Many. Nipples.
Love Outlander and the whole series.
I have a first edition. Tried twice; gave up.
I’ve read the series through twice. Can’t wait for the next book. It can be a slow start though for some people.
How many books are there?
Crys Wood 8. There are also other related books she’s written about some of the characters but I’ve not read them.

Best book series I’ve read. Fantastic writing that pulls you right into the story. Love love love!
Gave up after the first book. It’s an overly long romance novel. Which I suppose is ok if you’re into that.
Yep, I found it cheesy.
I know a lot of people love these. For me personally I found the writing immature.
I love the series. A lot of history in it. A no holds barred read.
Loved it. Amazing series
Fun fact: a lot of the series is filmed where I live.
Love love love the series.
Same here
Too much bodice ripper for my taste, but they certainly are beloved, and the history is sound.

I just finishef the second one and really struggled through it.
Loved it. However I’ve only read the books, haven’t seen the show
Season One of the show was fantastic! Season 2 and 3 have some excellent episodes but are not up to par with the first.
It was too graphic in sexual violence for me
As long as you don’t take it too seriously, it’s enjoyable.
I didn’t mind the first one, second one was okay, third one was omg is it ever going to end, and then the rest of the series is just to much investment, the books are too long.
I couldn’t get into it.
It’s like candy.
I loved them.
Loved the first two so much, then tired of the remaining.
Loved it twice!
The best, ever. Stick it out. ????
I’ve read all the books in the series several times. I love them!
Love it! My favorite of the series.
I’m excited to get to it! Hope it lives up to the hype!
Started the first one but couldn’t get into it
I really liked the first and the second was.. okay.. others were soo boring
Agree. Enjoyed the first two books and then found them too long. I typically relish a long book because I am a fast reader but for some reason these just didn’t hold me.
Loved!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorites!
Read them all several times. Enjoy!
Love outlander
