“Norse Mythology” by Neil Gaiman may not be quite what you are looking for, but it gives interesting insight into the mythology that shaped Viking culture.
I’ve been curious about this one! I’ve read a couple of Smiley’s other books and wondered about “Icelanders” ~ and why she was interested in this subject!
Omg circle of ceridwen a series by Octavia Randolph. Takes place when the Vikings were invading England. So good, historical fiction. I devoured all six books.
I know we are predominately book people, but I have a couple of youtube things that might be of interest (if you are interested in research more than story).
Have you read the Kristrin Lavransdatter trilogy by Sigrid Undset? They were written in the 1920’s and Undset got the Nobel Prize for one (all?) of them. It’s set at the time in history when the Norwegians were still under Swedish control. Very good.
Itās definitely on my list of things to read when Iām done with school for good and I have time to do silly things like āread for pleasure without guiltā.
Ah, yes. But I’m retired now and get caught up reading books for my book group (I can only handle one), so now I’m looking forward to summer and finishing Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache Three Pines series!
I was about to suggest the same thing. Itās been years since Iāve read the series, but I have them, and I think Iāve just been inspired to read them again.
If you are interested in the Viking raids in 9th ce England, The Last Kingdom series by Bernard Cornwell is fantastic! The first book is a Netflix/bbc miniseries
