I’ve very recently finished Jeff Long’s The Descent which was plenty scary. No relation to the movie of the same name, but it did borrow several concepts from this book.

Pen Pal was quite good. Coraline is awesome, but never really get why it’s considered horror.

Desperation Stephen King and Regulators Richard Bachmann. Read them back to back. Same characters in both but completely different stories.
Also, RL Stine’s adult novels.

I’m not sure your aesthetic tastes, but if you’re a fan of florid writing style and late 19th to early 20th century setting, HP LOVECRAFT is a-mazing.

Mr. Mercedes is not really horror, rather ‘crime’ but with a “King” twist. Note that it is the first book of a trilogy. Second book is Finders Keepers and third is End of Watch.
Definitely a good series! (y)
