My daughter (11 also) just had the Scholastic Book Fair at her school and her three must haves were Lucky Luna, Beastkeeper, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Her other favorites are Fablehaven, Wonder, Chocolate Touch, and she will re-read Grimm’s Fairy Tales over and over again!

When I was 11 and didn’t care to read much (not that this applies ?) my mom got me Harry Potter and it changed my whole attitude on reading! If she hasn’t read them, great time to start! Hope the cousin feels better soon!

I agree with the Selection Series. Also, anything Rick Riordan or Shannon Hale. The Lunar Chronicles would be good too, and A Touch of Gold, of course!

There are a series of these junior novels that follow the point of view of the villain. They are pretty good. The Beast Within: A Tale of Beauty’s Prince http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22890934-the-beast-within
