Loved it, when I read it in the 1970s, which was, of course, before the actual date! I found it terrifying then, but it feels like it is even more relevant today.

I’ve read it a couple of times. I feel it’s very relevant in today’s society. It will leave you asking questions about the impact of the current views many people have today.

One of my favorites just in a general sense. One that’s good for rereading and one of the most referenced novelss probably ever. Animal Farm is another good one of his and it’s really short

@Rick 1984, a brave new world, Fahrenheit 451 are great classic examples. The road by McCarthy is one of my favourite modern dystopians

I’m a huge fan of Orwell and yes I liked the book. I saw that you had read Animal farm earlier. The post is a few weeks old so I guess you’re done with 1984 now? If so what did you think about it? I would reccomend Orwells autobiography “Homage to Catalonia” from his time during the spanish civil war if you want the key to the other two books.

Yes. It scared me in the 60s and it scares me now. Le Carre has alerted me to the fact that no one is watching the watchers; MI5,6,CIA, FBI, KGB and latest Russia spy group. Not to mention all the others. Talk about power, control, spying, lying.

It’s not only the government that is watching, it’s Google, Facebook, and others

His book makes the point of the dangers of a totalitarian and repressive government. The main character secretly hates the oppressive Party and dreams of rebellion. Unfortunately, much of what he writes has come to pass…secret surveillance, rewriting history, abuse and misuse of government power, etc.
