Loved it, when I read it in the 1970s, which was, of course, before the actual date! I found it terrifying then, but it feels like it is even more relevant today.
I’ve read it a couple of times. I feel it’s very relevant in today’s society. It will leave you asking questions about the impact of the current views many people have today.
One of my favorites just in a general sense. One that’s good for rereading and one of the most referenced novelss probably ever. Animal Farm is another good one of his and it’s really short
I’m a huge fan of Orwell and yes I liked the book. I saw that you had read Animal farm earlier. The post is a few weeks old so I guess you’re done with 1984 now? If so what did you think about it? I would reccomend Orwells autobiography “Homage to Catalonia” from his time during the spanish civil war if you want the key to the other two books.
Yes. It scared me in the 60s and it scares me now. Le Carre has alerted me to the fact that no one is watching the watchers; MI5,6,CIA, FBI, KGB and latest Russia spy group. Not to mention all the others. Talk about power, control, spying, lying.
His book makes the point of the dangers of a totalitarian and repressive government. The main character secretly hates the oppressive Party and dreams of rebellion. Unfortunately, much of what he writes has come to pass…secret surveillance, rewriting history, abuse and misuse of government power, etc.
loved the book. have fun. some people find it slow, but remember the time and place it was written
@Margaret I enjoyed animal farm so can’t be to bad
good. i say that because some people can’t take the pace of older books

@Caleb yeah read animal farm in school and reread it last year
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
It was my first dystopian novel. Loved it.
One of my favourites (in my best 10 list ?. Enjoy your read, hope you will like it.
I liked it but the end ruined it for me. Not my favorite.
@Allan Not going to put out any spoliers here but the end made it for me tbh, made the book even better!
You should read Huxley’s A Brave New World afterwards.
A favorite of mine. I hope you enjoy reading it.
@Lisa so far I do
I read it in 1984. Much of it is coming true.
I read it last year,i think it’s very relevant in today in my country ?
I think it’s an excellent book and a relevant book.
One of my favourites.
Love it, dystopians are one of my go to genres
@Sean I need to read more of them
@Rick 1984, a brave new world, Fahrenheit 451 are great classic examples. The road by McCarthy is one of my favourite modern dystopians
I enjoyed reading it. But probably it won’t be my favorite.
I dreamt of it after finishing it ?
i do that for so many books!
A timely read.

It’s not only the government that is watching, it’s Google, Facebook, and others
I agree, I thought it was unrealistic when i read it years ago. now i feel it is just too real
Fantastic
I despise the gloomy communist ideology. I have faith in all humanity ?
