I had the same problem. I thought the writing was excellent, and I still couldn’t get into it…? I gave up on it but keep thinking I should give it another try.

I agree! And it stays with you long after you’ve finished reading it. It’s a slow moving leisurely read with such fully developed characters and gorgeous writing. One I’ll definitely re-read.

I still keep having dreams I live in the hotel with them all and I finished it a month ago?

Continue. It’s comes together in the end. Even after I’d finished I noticed how his writing style and character development changed as the story progressed.

I posted a similar post and was convinced by the comments to keep going. Ended up making my all time favorites list. The comment that helped me the most was not to expect much action but to focus on the charming count.

It’s so slow at the start, I almost dnfed it twice. I am so glad I didn’t, it picks up, and I ended up getting emotional at the end.

I didn’t fall in love with it until nearly the end. And then I wanted to reread it because I didn’t want it to end!! YES, keep reading!

I have backed off of it until I am in the mood for it. I think I will enjoy more during a less hectic time. I try not to put pressure on myself. It seems worthwhile to pick up again.

I have been listening to it on audible. I think maybe it’s more suited for reading. When listening my mind wanders because it doesn’t keep my interest.

I listened to it on my commute and thought the narrator set the tone perfectly. I agree, however, that it is a book to be savored.

I ended up reading and listening. Try a sample of the audiobook maybe? I found the British narrator Nicholas Guy Smith’s voice so charming and soothing — I ended up buying the audiobook (in addition to the hardcover) because I know I will want to listen to it again one day. Never done that before!

I think it is more on the “literature” side, if that makes sense. For example, if you liked The Goldfinch. Or Russian lit. Although this definitely has more humor!
