There are very factual elements in both of those dystopian novels. I’d mix ’em up. Elements in both that are off the charts truth if you consider when the novels were authored –amazing foresight.
With ebooks and availability of books I would say 451 would be difficult in the current world. 1984, on the other hand, seems to be possible. We are already switch into new speak (lol, emoji’s) and fake news stories become truth in a short period of time. So, 1984 would be more possible than 451.
1984. Why? The Patriot act for starters. Government looking at everyone emails, phone records with no valid warrant and no great probable cause. Cameras handing you out traffic tickets. Drones spying down on you before they send out a missile to blow you up. 1984 is here already. Big Brother is watching you and if you do something Big Brother doesn’t like you go to Gitmo and face Kafka justice.
But we are also getting double speak at times. Once Vietnam was the bad country now we get our shirts and cameras from there. Once Red China was a bad country, now we get our phones and TVs from there. Once Iran, Lebanon and Egypt were nice places to go, now they aren’t.
1984. 451 is already happening. You know what scares me the most? There are companies already implanting chips to their employees, and people are willing to accept it for meager benefits like shorter lines at the canteen.
451 because I dont believe in a totally totalitarian society. Whereas 451 has more than enough reminders to our current society, like our collectively giving up literacy and the disastrous aftereffects.
Though they both have relevance, and in today’s social situation it seems fair to think that… Where 1984 shows the downside of having the government trying to think foits people, and even trying to censor literacy in a negative was as well as Fahrenheit 451 doing the same both show the affects that can come from government corruption and dictatorship….
Brave New world
Why?
Fahrenheit 451. A pleasure driven society with totalitarian government that uses entertainment and media to control the people.
This sounds freakishly spot on. ?
Farenheit 1984. Both!!
1984
1984. George Orwell is so predictive. If you read Animal Farm you will see our current state plastered in an old book!
1984..

I would say Brave New World is more likely
and here I was hoping for a Solent Green type of future.. ??

eww!
1984, when things come up these days, my mind goes back to orwell’s novel. As mentioned previously, fake news is a good example.
Neither.

You forgot to mention the Ministry of Truth. What politicans and news is doing to us everyday.
Propaganda. Unfortunately that’s been going on for ages. Some even call it history!
But we are also getting double speak at times. Once Vietnam was the bad country now we get our shirts and cameras from there. Once Red China was a bad country, now we get our phones and TVs from there. Once Iran, Lebanon and Egypt were nice places to go, now they aren’t.
1984 is what is going on today. 451 is where we are headed
Seems like both, anti-science/thinking/reading, with lots of authoritarianism thrown in.

Yeesh.
This

We’re down the shitter no matter which one, if someone doesn’t stop this insanity soon.
Did you know antifa stopped a gay pride march? Want to guess why and where they were?
Both are in view!
Hopefully, neither.
