I just watched the 1994 film from the book. Fantastic cinematography, but VERY depressing for long periods of the run-time. Have never read the book–is it that grueling, or a little lighter in mood?

Ive yet to find a movie or show that matches the book, every movie ive seen has been terrible. I grew up on a farm and always had horses so this was my favourite book. I have a true antique copy from 1940 that was in my grandmother’s house. It’s so brittle that I keep it wrapped in paper towels, layered over with tin foil & in a Ziploc Baggie in my closet to at least keep it from being completely destroyed, but I read it NUMEROUS times as a child. The original was SO well written, & tear jerking at the same time. I also have the Breyer Black Beauty model horse set 🙂
20 minutes with em is better than 20 years of therapy ain’t it… My “shrink” is close to 30 years old and I have NO idea what I’m gonna do when he’s gone 🙁
I loved it. I am an animal lover myself. I read the book when I was ten or so, and I remember crying sooo much! I read it last year (8 years later) and I ended up crying once again?

I dislike books based around animals.
I read it and honestly only remember a couple scenes that may or may not have actually occurred. Horses don’t seem to draw me in very well.
