My stumbling block is of my own making. I see one or the new, larger, paperbacks and my knee-jerk reaction is that it’s one of the books with a bare chested hunk who has a buxom blond maiden in his grasp. You know what I mean? I must change the habit.
NOW, you can join the ranks of readers of great books. Congrats………………This was a great book. Hands down. No question. But her other books???? Not so great. Her life history? Somewhat good. I researched her and found her not so interesting. But, I think we might can say that about Dante also. Somewhere in all of us profound readers there is also a book we COULD write, if we had the courage.?
Thank you for your congrats, but I must correct one idea. I AM a reader of great literature, and no other kind of book. This author suits me well, as her story is – IMO – more complicated but more economically worded than, say, Jane Austin. This is my first novel, and I feel like I have a tiger by the tail!
I agree. I had to read Rebecca for a goodreads group read, and I fell in love with it. I had previously read some of her short stories, but never her novels. I am very happy I didn’t get rid of Rebecca because it had been on my shelf for years, and I wasn’t too pleased with it at the beginning.
Giving a book a chance by reading it can make all the difference.

I love all her books Rebecca is my favorite
^^^All of this
Love Rebecca!
I love Rebecca.
My first read is The King’s General. It’s caused me to look up words and places. IMO DuMaurier’s writing is equal to Jane Austin’s.
Rebecca is one of my favorite books.
Rebecca was so well written
Rebecca is my favourite

Yes, I agree that her life was not so interesting. But, then, who’s life can be judged interesting? Or Not?
She even wrote the story Hitchcock based the Birds on and is a gloomy but brilliant writer, I like Jamaica Inn too.
Love Rebecca as well and I’ve heard Jamaica Inn is terrific x
I’m real glad there are more reads from her!
