It is a very intense book. It was very well written, but it made me have so many feelings that brought me back to my own childhood. Just be prepared for an emotional roller coaster because it is based on her life.

I’m wondering the same. I’m about half way through and I’m not seeing the point. Everyone seems to have loved it so I’m going to stick it out but I’m finding it boring.

Wonderful! I read it years ago and still think about it. I recommend it to everyone. I had the pleasure of hearing her speak at the National Book Festival in DC when she was promoting her book. Amazing story of how one can rise above their background.

Did anyone read her other book The SilverStar?

@Allison she also wrote Half-broke Horses and an Appalachian cook book. The cook book surprised me because food scarcity was a major theme in The Glass Castle.

I found it fascinating in ways, but I didn’t love it like so many do. Mostly I was just pissed off at the parents. It was a solid 3.5/5

Couldn’t finish it. I got tired of the same story over and over. They move, father got new job, have mental problems, move again, start and lost new job, mental abuse, move again. It went no where slowly.

I liked it but not as much as Educated. She didn’t have as much self-awareness so she couldn’t deconstruct, reconstruct herself, and describe the process like the author does in Educated.
