Who’s read “The Hunger Games”? I was thinking of getting the series for my 13 year old daughter. Is she too young for it? Thanks in advance!

Not at all. Especially if she’s mature for her age.

My 9th grade students are reading it now and they’re mostly 14. They’re liking it.

My fourth grade son has read it (10 yrs old). I don’t think he cared for the mushy scenes either, but he loved the plot/story. We also discussed it while he read it.

I have a different opinion from everyone else. I read the whole series a couple of years ago, I found it very disturbing that children are pitted against each other in what amounts to a death match. Kin to a human sacrifice, 1 random name is called from each area, and that child goes to “games”. If your daughter is sensitive I won’t.

I absolutely loved this book! Honestly, 13 is an amazing age to read it! It tackles some questions and thoughts that are good to give to teenagers. It allows them to grow their minds! Plus, Katness is absolutely amazing! 10/10 recommend!

I’m a teen librarian and I recommend The Hunger Games to that age group. They love it.

I think it’s fine for a 13 year old to read it, especially a girl. Katniss is thrust into some demanding stuff, but she is an empowering woman protagonist that you don’t often see in books for YA.

I loved it but according to her maturity level it may be a bit over her head in places. However if she is an avid reader she will probably do ok with it.
