As a teenager, I read all of Virginia Andrews. The Flowers series, the other series, that her family ended up finishing off and that really weird one, My Sweet Audrina.
That’s the book that got me hooked on reading when I was young. I borrowed my grans copy before she returned it to the library. I read them all Virginia Andrews was my favourite at the time xx
I was working at my first job. The secretary had just read it, said how brilliant it was and leant it to me in the Friday. I read it over the weekend and returned it on the Monday. I think that may have been the first book I’d read in one hit. Would have been about 1979/1980. I was really looking forward to the film but hated it when I watched it xx
They made a movie of flowers in the Attic I’ve read them all years ago. Your right Maggie mam did have them think that’s how I got into them. They were scary for the time.
Went on amazon last night and bought the set to read again!!! ?? have been looking for them for a while 2nd hand but never see them, and it was only £14.99 for the 5 books lol x
It was passed round at lunchtime at school – I read it but only as part of a group and I wasn’t that impressed. The Stephen Kings that were passed around stayed with me more.
I did! The whole lot plus more. The person who is her ghostwriter is good too. Just about to give a load of VA Andrews books to my mates @Sarah & @Kate as I have read them & its time for them to go elsewhere! Xx
We had a copy going round our year at school. One of the boarders brought it from America. It wasn’t even out in the UK. By the time it got to me, it was falling to bits!
I started it many many years ago when I was about 12. I didn’t finish it at the time because my mum found it and barred me from reading it. I think I may have read it subsequently because frankly at the age when your mum bans something from your life, it’s the first thing you want to do!!
I was talking to my mum about that book the other day! I absolutely loved it!
I loved the books as well Claire ?
Me, I read them all and loved them!!

Only published in 1979. Thought it was earlier. Might have to visit it again to see if I find it as scary as back then.

I remember the older girls at school reading it.
Went on amazon last night and bought the set to read again!!! ?? have been looking for them for a while 2nd hand but never see them, and it was only £14.99 for the 5 books lol x
Only read first 3 then lost interest.
When growing up, but later ones became too unbelievable/ uninteresting, then were later written by someone else
I wonder if there’s ever a case where the ‘someone else’ comes in and rescues a series? Or writes it better than the original writer?
Cannot think of one, @Nick
It was passed round at lunchtime at school – I read it but only as part of a group and I wasn’t that impressed. The Stephen Kings that were passed around stayed with me more.
Yes the lot, passed around our office
I sure did. Rebought and re-read the series on my kindle recently. And watched the movie on lifetime a few weeks ago

I started it many many years ago when I was about 12. I didn’t finish it at the time because my mum found it and barred me from reading it. I think I may have read it subsequently because frankly at the age when your mum bans something from your life, it’s the first thing you want to do!!
