Read the first one, was intrigued to see what the hype was about.. gimmicky fantasy porn for the first half trying to sell itself for something a bit intellectual.. the second half went downhill rapidly and was entirely predictable.. I wouldn’t be such a cad as to say what happens, but more or less you know how it ends by the end of the second page… would I read the sequel? I don’t think so.. but if any of you women would like a good whipping in Rome just drop me a line in private and I’ll see what I can do ! 😉

I got halfway through the first book, it was badly written, repetative phrases etc. Gave up in the end.

I think that the author had a fantastic publicist as the story and the way it was written was actually quite just ok and in places quite poor. I read all 3 hoping to find what I was missing that everyone else was raving over but never did find it.

Definitely preferred the ‘Crossfire’ series by Sylvia Day, gave up on 50 Shades trilogy half way through second book, but having read all the ‘Crossfire’ series so far, I am eagerly awaiting the latest book due out in week or so

Terrible! Only read first 50 pages of first book and had to give it up. What a terrible waste of paper and waste of time.

Sorry but they are junk. As grace slick said ” feed your head” – and 50 shades ain’t no head food. Start something more challenging – don’t mean to patronise , but life is too short for all this rubbish.

Stop taking it so seriously guys, it’s a lovely love story. I loves it!

I agree with @Shelley Crossfire definitely better. Better written, more intelligent story and didn’t feel like I was reading a book about a naive woman being abused – which 50 shades felt like in parts.

Don’t !!! It’s absolutely awful, worst books I’ve read. I got all three to see what the fuss was about, didn’t finish the first and sent the other two back ! Badly badly written !!

Gives me the shudders just thinking about it, I read the first book just to see what the fuss was about NEVER AGAIN. Very very badly written, very weak plot, and a waste of good time and money

I loved them. the truth is your not reading it because of good writing lol. It is just a fun fast read with some great naughty bits. Get to read with your partner ;). Don’t listen to the nay sayers and just read them for what they are and have fun. You will never be vanilla again hehehe.

Have you read Twilight? You’ve then read 50 shades of grey. It’s a sanctioned fanifiction.

How many are in the Crossfire series? I saw a couple in a thrift shop recently, but didn’t know whether or not they would be good……. btw, I already commented I loved 50 Shades 🙂

I’ve read them, and like many in here I thought they were poorly written. Though considering they started as Twilight fan-fiction, I don’t think you can expect much. I hate Christian Grey, he was too controlling and I don’t find that appealing in a man at all, which makes it hard to enjoy the book and find it “sexy”, as to me, he wasn’t.

I have read the series and i was not impressed. Far too much sex (and I like sex) and the author thinks the reader can`t remember things as she repeats herself every few lines

I read the series. It got a bit predictable after the first book. Although I stuck it out reading all 3 books it also got boring towards the end.

I read the first book and knew after I’d finished it that there was no way I wanted to read the others. Besides the fact it was very badly written I think it sent out the wrong message, Christian may have been ‘hot’ ‘rich’ and everything else that a woman might want but he was controlling to the point of being manipulative and emotionally abusive. If this was a real life relationship we’d be telling her to run for the hills and not to stop once she’d reached them.

I read the first book and it honestly annoyed me. I felt the main characters lacked depth and I had no desire to finish the trilogy. I know some people loved the books though.

I say just go read it and form your own opinion. The series has been criticized too much by society. Just read it and form your own opinion! 😉 I have read the first one so far.

I also agree with you Celeste. I appreciate it’s not for everyone but the story does evolve over the 3 books. I’m sure it’s all intended to be a little tongue in cheek and not taken so seriously.

Very tongue in cheek, but still fun (we had a book club for it, but it was all in fun….my niece made us cds of all of the music he mentions in the books and put a grey tie on the gift bags).
