He can get a little wordy but his work is usually very detailed.

I’ve read all of his book except the new one… never gotten bored with any of them… a few were very long winded though.

Sleeping Beauties. I am 3/4 of the way through it, not bad at all.

1
Tesha

lol yeah depends on the book
I couldn’t get through Firestarter, Lisey’s Story, Rose Madder, Cujo and I’m sure there’s more. But there’s a few that I read over and over too

Rose Madder is one of my favourites!.

0

And Stevie rates Lisey’s story as one of his best novels. Took me 2 attempts to get into it but was worth it.

0
Tesha

its been a while since I read either lol to me, Lisey’s Story had no point

0
SieSie

Moments of boredom with many I’d say, but Insomnia was the only one I got so bored I stopped.

I just couldn’t after like 11 pages ?

His books are just always way too long..and I just don’t have that kind of patience

I tried reading IT, The Stand, Under The Dome, the one where the title is a date…and I could not get into any of them.

I did like the IT movie though. And The Dark Tower film was fun.

maybe you can look for one of his shorter books?

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is a good shorter book and not really horror.

I’ve read pretty much all of them, there was only one I didn’t like. I accept that they’re long sometimes, but honestly I find his writing magical, and so familiar now that just reading his words makes me feel like I’m home, in a safe & happy place.
And every time I read one of these threads I just want to go back and read them all again. And maybe give the one I didn’t finish another go.

I can’t remember what it’s called, it was a short one about a haunted car (not Christine). I think it came out around the same time as The Girl who lived Tom Gordon, which I really enjoyed.

From a Buick 8

@Walter yes, that’s it. I can’t even remember now why I didn’t like it, I just know I didn’t finish it.

I’m wondering if those who find him long winded and ‘can’t get through his books’ are used to reading YA or books shorter than 300 pgs. If you have a short attention span, you will have a problem getting through most SK books. I’ve been reading 300 plus page books since grade school (35 years lol) so I don’t bat an eye with his books. For those who have said they can’t get past the first chapter, you are missing out on alot if you give up that quickly.

1
Briana

I’ve only finished a few of his books, the rest I couldn’t get into.

Not interested in fantasy type stuff like Dark Tower or Gunslingers, but his horror is tough to put down. Been reading him for 35 years and am rarely disappointed. Start with the 70s and 80s stuff like Carrie, Cujo and Pet Sematary. And the short stories one Night Shift.

That will depend on whether you are a slow or a fast reader. It took me a week to read The Dead Zone, which is average for me. Fast readers might finish it in a day or two.
