I love reading them because i like the idea of getting to know the main characters as the series goes on . In some cases they become like virtual friends and I cry when something bad happens
I agree @Sarah. You become quite attached to a series and usually the team become very familiar.
Standalones are needed for in between series!

I’ve always liked them. These days I go in for the more hardboiled ones. Raymond Chandler, Ross Macdonald, Dashiell Hammett etc. I enjoy their cynical approaches and amoral themes.
It is wonderful when you find an author/series/characters that you like,it is like catching up with old friends.The authors have to be exceptional to maintain the standard of writing-sadly some don’t,and a “winning formula”results in substandard follow-ons,but when they ARE really good,it is a joy.
I love it when i start a book and realize how good it is and there is several more to follow meaning im really gonna get into these characters there life becomes my life for a while bliss xx
