Never could get into Stephen King. Tells me too much unimportant stuff, but apparently that’s why a lot of people love him. ?‍♀️

1
Morgan

@Trista Ya, he’s all about building up the atmosphere, even if that invloves telling miniscule details to help the reader feel involved. He’s not for everyone that’s for sure.

Mark Lawrence didn’t win me over with his prince of thorns series. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve read but it wasn’t good. I have heard good things about Red Sister though.

@Trista Red Sister is one of the best books I’ve ever read.

David

It’ll be because he’s cheeky and arrogant to his fans when anyone asks him pretty much anything about when his next book will be out or how far along it is or pretty much anything . The guys a knob

1
Cameron

@David that’ll be because he is a master craftsman who takes pride in his work, he is also a proffessor, amd currently in work on a t.v./movie. He has made it abundantly clear thatvwe will know when he knows. If you appreciate the beauty and sunlbstantial importance of Patricks world then wait patiently with the rest of us with out insulting this man that is sharing his world, thoughts, and art with us. If you want a mediocre book at a faster rate of publishing i would reccomend Brandon Sanderson
If your problemnis strictlynthat he is arrogant and cheeky then i dont know what to tell you are than he has reason to be he is an artist along the lines of any of the greats that we study. So what if it takes him a long time, it took 20 years to complete Brahms first symphony! Could you imagine how many times these people hear those questions? How many times donyounthink youncould be asked and harrased about the samenthing by thousands of prople until you started being a bit jaded and rude about it?

1
David

@Cameron for starters it’s his own fault if he’s taken on too much to devote the time needed to finish his books . Secondly those fans of his are the ones paying for him to do all those other things by buying his books so his arrogance and egotism isn’t acceptable regardless of how good a writer he is . I also think there are at least a dozen writers out there just as good or better who actually have respect for their fans and aren’t total arrogant assholes . Personally im not that bothered when his next book is out because I didn’t think they were quite as good as people make out . I also find that his attitude as a person spoils his work slightly . But then that’s personal opinion

1
Seth

I actually really like his attitude. I always say he’s the author I would pick to “have a beer with.” Sure his book has taken a long time, and over the years his responses have gotten a little more terse, but he always is respectful and considerate of his fan base when responding and tries to inject humor into his responses. Let’s also not forget that he had his first child shortly after publishing his second book, and made it clear he didn’t want to be an absentee Dad while trying to push out a less than perfect book for his publishers.

I actually think that part of the reason for the delay is that he’s actively been building follow up stories that take place in Temmerant, and that after Doors of Stone is released we’ll see other books come out at a faster rate (for a little while).

2
TristaQuestion author

I just don’t like his asshole persona. He gets mad that some of his fans keep asking when it’s going to be done. It’s his job and people have been waiting for YEARS. That should be expected. I’m a nurse. It’s my job. I can’t be like “I’m not going an IV for 20 years “ and if asked why be like “stfu dicks!” I personally don’t think doors of stone will ever be released but that’s just my opinion. Im not going to berate him or call him an asshole because of that. It’s just how he acts toward his fans. If you don’t feel the need to write something and release it, fine. Lashing out because people want you to do your job is harsh though. Just my opinion though. I’m not going to have a huge Facebook angry debate over it though honestly. ? Hes a person, not a God. Not saying that one of you want to have a blow out over him but some people throw low blows over this non ending debate. ??? It’s good that some people still have faith he’ll release something. I hope y’all are right and I’ll eat my words and look like a jackass. Alas I have no faith in the man.

2
TristaQuestion author

I also want to state I put (even though he’s an asshole) to avoid said debates. Anytime I mention I liked name of the wind it turns into someone getting upset over him. I just like him as an author. His release rate and attitude not so much. No need for anyone to get mad over opinions but for some reason people do

0
Lucas

@Trista Keep in mind I personay don’t care about Rothfuss, or think he is good or bad either way.

First, you’re making a dissimiliar comparison. A nurse and an author are entjrely different things, and Rothfuss has published virtually nothing: even as a successful author with his very few releases, it is nothing to glean a living off. Authors also do not have the urgency of a nurse.

Rothfuss has had a child since the publishing of his second book. If I am not mistaken he has two and made it clear he doesn’t want to be an absentee father. He has a job. He has other side projects and obligations. And his father – the last time I checked – was terminally ill and has been for quite awhile.

Rothfuss has made numerous posts explaining why the book is taking a long time – if it ever comes – and people message him by the hundreds every week asking him where the next installment is. I can see why he would get fed up with people harassing him for years with the same question as if they are entitled to the book now at the expense of his personal life, especially during an obviously chaotic period in his life. He’s not a Clerk standing behind a desk telling people to fuck off, or a Nurse being negligent at work. He’s an author whose primary source of income, like most authors, comes from other sources. People aren’t cornering him at work. They’re flooding his personal email, calling him, and all his social media when information the books status is readily avaliable. I don’t think he is an asshole for getting testy after years of people badgering him over the book. Sure, he could handle it better. But not an asshole.

2
TristaQuestion author

Lucas Greene ?‍♀️ either way of thinking, it’s still how I feel at the end of the day. Maybe one day we’ll get a third book and everyone will be happy and satisfied. Until then I’ll just binge on other things. ? good thing about being a reader is there is always something else to read.

0
Cameron

@Trista haha yes because sharing an artistic passion and doing an i.v. are two entirely different things???? Like not even closely related and the fact that you just tried to compare the two should save everyone sometime knowing its next to useless reading your comments any further.

0
TristaQuestion author

@Cameron ok ? ?

0
Sky

Trista Nicole Wilson I agree with you. He once leaked a (boring) page of the third book himself and then compared it to being raped when people shared it. The man is a great author, but not so much as a person.

2
Lucas

@Trista Still. Its not like he is getting paid a lot. He probably makes 250 per month on royalties; if that and thats being generous. Even for someone like Sanderson who was essentially a machine in book production for a few years (literally publishing like 2 a year nonstop) his fiction was far from his primary income source.

1
Lucas

@Trista The point I am trying to make is to temper your dislike for him with nuance. Even famous writers who publish a lot often don’t make muvh money. Rothfuss makes an inconsequential amount off his writing and has other priorities; and the reasons for the delay are all publically avaliable and have been for some time via his social media. I personay didn’t like his books that much; but I know any time I buy a book the series its part of may never be finished. :p He may very well be an asshole to fans but I don’t have any examples to draw off of.

1
Sky

Lucas Greene Do I think that he is his fans’ bitch? No. But he has time and time again displayed a complete lack of respect for fans. Yes, he gets constantly asked when the book will be out. Part of that is just being a popular author. The other part is the fact he claimed the entire series was finished and ready to go before NotW was published. Here’s an example of how he talks about his fans.
