Throne of Glass. I’ve heard from several people (and I can now say I agree with them) that it’s a lot harder to get into ToG if you’ve read ACOTAR first. And it’s simply because her writing just wasn’t as good back when she wrote ToG, so if you read ACOTAR first then ToG and CoM are just disappointing. It was only when I picked up Heir of Fire that I started liking the series.
ACOTAR, but skip ACOWAR and read sarahviehmann’s fanfiction instead – A court of War and Starlight, since ACOWAR is one of the worst books I’ve ever read. Skip ToG altogether, not worth your time.
Yup, much better than ACOWAR. Much smarter idea, characters don’t lose their personalities, there is no unnecessary drama and its pacing is really, really good. Not to mention writing – the way ACOWAR was written makes me think first two books were written by someone else. ACOWAR is chaotic, SJM can’t write group scenes or fighting scenes to save her life and her narration is always biased towards main characters. First two books don’t have this issue and sarahviehmann’s ff also goes this way.
@Maha I recommend reading some really good authors and their fighting scenes – try Sanderson, Jordan or Eriksson. Or Jacqueline Carey, if you prefer romance. SJM’s are messy, one-character focused and biased, everything is chaotic and limited in so many ways. Her narration is also too flowery, juvenile at moments and – like stated previously – biased. She’s semi-good at writing one-on-one fights/sparrings, but once she tries to write something more, it gets awful. So if it’s legendary, then it’s known as “Mediocre but popular” legend.
@Ewa eventually, each person likes something different than the other. I find tog amazing and sjm’s writing wow and inspiring. I found tog better than acotar, you found acotar better.
I would suggest TOG first because ACOTAR is a little better in some ways and you don’t want to go into TOG thinking it’s going to be the same. I feel like you’ll fall in love with BOTH series if you do that.
I read ACOTAR first and I’m 3/4 of the way through TOG….everyone’s opinion is going to be different. I love both….but I feel way more connected with TOG and loving it just a bit more.
Tog. But if you’re one who’s not hooked right away, give it until the end of book 3. Also, read Assassin’s Blade whenever you want, but recommended before starting book 4. (I read it after book 5 and was fine.)
ACOTAR!!! I’ve read both. Both are great but acotar really draws you in to want to read more of her work. Tog takes a little while to get you hooked. Like the 3rd book or so. You’re hooked on acotar by halfway through the first book.
Throne of glass
Throne of Glass thou the other is a good one ❤
I read ACOTAR first and am now half way through the TOG series. So far I liked ACOTAR better so maybe start with TOG… Save the best for last.
ACOTAR ??
I think I liked TOG best, do the first couple books are a bit tough for some people to get through. Do I love ACOTAR as well <3
Both are good. Court books are more relationship based (imo) where as tog is more plot, plot, plot. I recommend tog first cause it’s my favorite 🙂

Here you go 🙂 https://svfanficarchive.tumblr.com/tagged/acowas_chapter
@Ewa excuse me, tog is legendary. Sjm writes killer fighting scenes. Tbh, tog was written much better than acotar
No, it wasn’t. TOG was written first so it’s not as well written.

@Hannah maybe so, but I found tog deeper
You said that TOG was better written than ACOTAR.
@Hannah it is, to me. Others might find acotar better written

I’d suggest reading the first three TOG books before ACOTAR because it was what SJ Maas wrote first. ?
Acotar as it’s shorter and you’ll get lost to the world one you go in to TOG
Either
Lol I read ACOTAR first but I enjoyed ToG more. But ACOTAR is still fantastic and one of my top favorite series of all time ?
@Rabia i felt the same
ACOTAR! But they’re both awesome.

Throne of Glass…

Both awesome…but ACOTAR is much shorter if you’re looking to spend less time. TOG has the final book out in October
Throne of Glass
Acotar
ACOTAR is way better, so I guess read TOG first so you won’t be comparing them the entire time.

I’m going to go with ToG because the last book is about to come out and it’s really awesome. But ACOTAR is good too.
Throne of Glass
A court of thorns and roses..I’m on book 2, loving it
Tog. But if you’re one who’s not hooked right away, give it until the end of book 3. Also, read Assassin’s Blade whenever you want, but recommended before starting book 4. (I read it after book 5 and was fine.)
