That’s honestly such a hard decision I read ACOTAR first which is amazing and it’ll always be special to me as I read it first but I found I predicted a lot of what happened in the story so I have to pick TOG as being better you get so many more characters POV and there’s so many plot twists and happy moments and heart breaks and I honestly can’t always predict this one as Sarah has thrown in lots of plot twists you’ll enjoy it so much (just don’t skip TOD like most it’s so good and is story essential even if it’s technically a novella/ filler novel) ?

I love them both but if forced to choose I think I’d go ACOTAR because I love beauty and the beast ?

Tog is a better story as a whole but a court of mist and fury is a better book. Does that make sense? Lol i feel like acomaf makes that series, that book is wonderful but the tog series is a better story.

I say this all the time. ToG is the better series but ACOMAF is the best book.

Alexzandra

Agreed! ? ACOMAF is one of her best books ❤️

Throne of Glass hands down. It’s consistently better. Better character development. Better mapped out. Better story line.

Maas dropped the ball hard with ACOWAR. I’ve never read a train wreck quite like that.

@Rikki – I agree. Her character development and her plot pacing were disasters in ACOTAR. It had the potential to be so much better than it was.

I liked ACOTAR better ? TOG was amazing though

@Ashleigh ahh I could write an essay on this but to keep it short I don’t like her writing style where she abuses the em-dashes and it reads super weird and fragmented (this is more noticeable in acomaf and war) i was super underwhelmed by throne of glass, the story of an assassin who can’t stand to be in the shadows to save her life, is naive and doesn’t kill anyone, not to mention that the dresses descriptions took the focus away from the competition, that for a lot of parts took place in passing time. Acotar was okay, acomaf was lengthy for no reason and boring (to me, I know that this book is beloved) the plot would disappear for chapters and chapters and there was no sense of urgency, I don’t like her main characters and how they’re all ~perfect, she never holds the main characters accountable in the narrative not even when they’re wrong and her books have a heavy focus on physical beauty which is just bleh to me… sorry that got kinda long but I’ve really tried to give her a chance so many times ?

TOG. All day long.

I’d say the ACOTAR series because Maas had time to develop her writing style, but TOG while being a good read only picks up in Heir of Fire (that’s when her ACOTAR writing style makes it into TOG I think).

ToG for me… what i have found is that most who read ToG first prefer it, and most who read ACOTAR first prefer those.

Then you get me who read ACOTAR first and prefers TOG so I’m the minority group ?‍♀️

My friend read ToG first but prefers ACOTAR. It’s uncommon tho. I love both and have tattoos for both lol but i love ToG more

1
Ashleigh

@Jenelle I want a tattoo that captures both and have had someone draw me a rough sketch of what I want and am going to go get it professionally drawn before deciding if I really want it or not ?

ToG but you have to power through till Heir of Fire I’d recommend starting the series when you literally just want to waste time like the first couple books are important to the story line later on but don’t go into them expecting awesomeness

I agree.. i put book 1 down 3 times… finally read it and liked it, book 2 was better, and from 3 on they each were so amazing and become an obsession

Yeah I read ToG and stopped on book one and then read ACoTaR and loved that one. I still haven’t gotten through ToG book 2.

I read ToG 1-3 before ACOTAR came out. I was at the St Paul MN launch of ACOTAR and got an autographed copy and to meet Sarah ????. I went to the Minneapolis event she had for Tower if Dawn to

I agree with all of the above posts saying I enjoyed TOG as a series better but overall my favorite book my Maas is ACOMAF (2nd book in ACO books)

I love ACOTAR as a whole but TOG would probably win for me. I think Maas is amazing but her first books in both series for some reason weren’t my favorite. Like when I reread TOG I’m sitting here pacing and tapping my fingers waiting for Some of my favs to come in and when I reread ACOTAR I’m clawing my eyes out while reading about Tamlin the Tool and waiting for the inner circle.. don’t know if it’s just me ??‍♀️??‍♀️

I think if you love a good fantasy book but with a dominant romance tale then ACOTAR. And if you’re more into fantasy with romance present but not overwhelming the plot, then TOG.
I love them both equally aha!!
