If I had to pick one, it’s probably my rather battered paperback copy of AE van Vogt’s The War Against the Rull. I was at one of my very first Science Fiction conventions, and he was one of the authors there. I brought my copy to see if I could get an autograph, and he not only signed it, he dated it and in response to my question whether there would be any more more Rull stories, he wrote “Here are all the Rull stories to date.” As a newbie fan, this was a really wonderful thing for him to do for me.
eey, uh…. Gosh, I have some good ones. War and Peace, the Inner Sanctum Edition, 1954. Complete with plastic wrapped dust cover and character map book marker, I’m taking it with me on my move to protect it.
It’s very difficult to pick *one* but I’ve decided to go with this. Amanda is one of my favourite people, and reading this played a large part in me being (and learning to be) more comfortable with myself 🙂
Ian Irvine’s set of three world books. I’ve not come across a series that looks so good on a shelf. They are an epic tale and at the moment the series stands at 12 books and they got me interested in reading when I was about 14. (Very dyslexic so was always put off by the inevitable “wobble” and because my teachers called me stupid)
My Family and Other Animals. It one of the best books ever written, plus my copy is a really old one (should probably take it to the bookbinder’s) and it’s been charished for 3 generations in our family.
Difficult to pick just one!
