As an author I’ll class that as an achievement. As the nice man I am, sorry I scared you!

None have given me nightmares, but I was very uneasy after reading No Safe Home by @Tara and immediately The Watcher by @Netta.
I’ve been put off eating honey after Flesh Evidence by @Malcolm
@Conrad and Chris Carter books come closest to giving me nightmares

The only book ever to give me nightmares was to kill a mockingbird when we read that at school

Not Nightmares per se but Rags by Mick Lewis gave me some surreal dreams

Frailty and opticians Wife by Betsy Freeman Reavley. The feeling those books left me with, stayed for quite a while. And @Rob and his Mechanic trilogy.

@David good luck! I read parts through my fingers, but is so well written.

Alexina, I’ve just read the description of the storyline. And bought it because it’s got Betsy’s feel to it, I loved Frailty and Opticians Wife.

To be honest, I have never had a nightmare from a book and I read some pretty hard core stuff. Must be hardened to it! 😉

The film certainly gave me the shivers the night I saw it and had trouble sleeping, but I was only 15 and sneaked in with my older brother… Read the book years later but the effect was no longer there.

Ah….I read the book first at night time whilst living on my own …so even more scary ! The film scared me too .

Lorna Doone. I had an abridged version as a child which did not prepare me for the unabridged novel, I had nightmares for years and my copy is still on my friend’s bookshelf because I didn’t want to get rid of it but was too scared to have it in the house.

I need to re read it. I read the version when young… but, can’t wait remember it all. However it must have been a powerful read as It stirs emotions when mentioned

I think I would have been less affected if I’d waited until the children were older, but there’s just one scene which is really horrible.

The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I don’t scare easy 🙂

I haven’t had nightmares- but there are characters I wouldn’t want to come across in real life or have felt emotions for.

Just caught up with this @Audrey – loving it! I still smile at you feeling too scared to let your dog out at night. It’s a writer’s dream to make the twisted things that happen in a storyline seem so real that they scare people in reality. Thank you. x
