I have several but I will go with BLOQ by @Alan The Optician’s Wife by Betsy Freeman Reavley Over My Shoulder by @Patricia Here and Gone by Haylen Beck (aka Stuart Neville)
Anything by Angela Marsons, Mel Comley and Robert Bryndza and I am Pilgrim. I’ve also just read two books both called The Party. They were both good reads ?
@Kate Elly Griffiths Val McDermid P J Tracy Louise Penny Anne Cleeves Karin Slaughter Susan Hill Sarah Ward @Jane @Rachel To name just some of the terrific authors worth a read ?
Crime? Or in general? Crime I would say Neon Rain by James Lee Burke or Prussian Blue by Philip Kerr. Generally I would say The Secret History by Donna Tartt. All brilliant works of fiction with a real page turning compulsion about them.
Apart from my own, I usually recommend any book by George Simenon. Proof if it was ever needed that the book doesn’t have to be a thick tome to be a good read.
Well it goes without saying that I always recommend the titles on my husband’s publishing company, Dean Street Press. Patricia Wentworth, Peter Drax, Christopher Bush (although I personally find him a bit too ‘dry’ and ‘academic’, and I’m never blown away by the denouements, as he never has enough suspects to begin with!), but I am in LOVE with an author from the ’30s/’40s that Dean Street Press is re-publishing Oct. 1. He is called Francis Vivian, and was a bit of a ‘thing’ in The Golden Age of Crime Fiction, but then faded into obscurity, basically. I LOVE his books. If any of you have read E.F Benson (Mapp and Lucia) you’ll understand exactly the sort of humor I am talking about; I actually laughed out loud while proof reading a re-keying of one of his manuscripts, not once, but at least three times a chapter. It’s not ‘officially’ comedic, but it Francis Vivian is soooo dry with his humor. I don’t know if I’d be allowed to put a link to our Francis Vivian titles (or any of our others), but you can find all of the authors above (and we have many more, but the ones I mention are my favorites) on Amazon. xo
I’ve just listened to The Girl with all the Gifts by M R Carey. Wow! what a book. I would never has chosen it as I don’t particularly like the subject matter but it was on my book club list and is brilliantly written. 10/10 from me!
