The Hobbit isn’t a series but Tolkien has had a massive influence on the fantasy genre. He took from lots of different influences himself and was a professor of language. The depth into which he went to create his world and languages is insane.
I’ve never once considered Once and Future as having any impact on the fantasy genre.
Tolkien
Tolkien. It showed publishers the sales potential and opened the door for the era we live in now. Without Tolkien a lot of other writers wouldn’t have gotten signed.
