love that, I still have my very beaten paperback from the 70’s…horrified at the thought of replacing it. I teach this book to grade 9 International students and they’re in awe of my devotion to this one copy, which no one is allowed to touch..I snarl
years ago I gave a box of all my paperbacks to eldest son, my collection from the 80’s so probably first editions…now I find myself scanning used copies so I can pass onto my daughter…children, sigh
Me too. My only exception is I have a gorgeous old set of Shakespeare’s complete works and single copies of a few of his other plays (the big set is beautiful but not really useable), the Bible, and my friend’s books (when she first got published I started getting two copies of each book – one to keep pristine (in case she becomes the next JK Rowling!) and one to read and share).
I have 3 copies of “Stark” by Ben Elton …. The first one is for reading, the second one is for when I wear the print off the first one with my eyes .. and the third is for recruitment purposes.
I have a full set of Daniel Silva’s Gabriel Allon books, 5 copies of “Little Women” (my childhood copy, my husband’s Mother’s, Grandmother’s, great Aunt’s and my Grandmother’s edition. I also have Jo’s Boys, Girl of Old Boston and Invincible Louisa. But as many of you know, my prizes are rare editions of Out of Africa. I have one 1937 first edition, five 1938 first editions and my 1989 for casuual reading. I have my eye on a rare but newer version that is leather bound. Maybe Valentine’s Day??❤️
I used to have two copies of a book (usually like this: one bought, the other gotten somewhere for free) so, in times of need, like last-minute search for a present, I’d just go to my bookshelves and pick a fitting book for the friend. Worked out beautifully, no copies left.
I think there is more than one vying for that honor in my books. The Harry Potter series, The Canterbury Tales, Call of the Wild, Hound of the Baskervilles, The Hobbit, and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
The more I read replies the more I realize I have in multiple, too! The Little Prince (English and French), Behind the Attic Wall, A Little Princess, the Secret Garden, Rush Home Road, Phantom, Les Miserables
Black Beauty. I have a 1930s edition, an illustrated copy that was maybe 1940s/1950s, and the lovely Penguin Classics edition that I love so much because, it’s a horse. Who doesn’t love a shiny horse on the cover of a book? 😛 I don’t consider my French books/English translations of those French books to be multiple. Just because… why? I mean, why? It doesn’t make any sense. At all.
None that I can help. We have so many books we don’t have space for duplicates. Reorganising books and found dupes by/of Jk Rowling, Jane Smiley, Agatha Christie, War and Peace, Shakespeare and more. Did used to have several copies of various Jane Austen books.
Agatha Christie And Then There Were None or Murder on the Orient Express. I have a couple different single copies and a few that are part of the 2-4 books in one collections.
Dragons of Autumn Twilight! I wore out 2 copies re-reading them so much and then I also bought 2 extra copies used that I cut up for art, I think I have 5 or 6 copies of this book! It’s the best ❤️
I adore these books. I have 2 sets in paperback, as like you my first set is worn out. But, I also have the hardback illustrated complete in one edition.
I have a collected Shakespeare but am still hanging on to some individual plays. The comedies I read in college have lovely covers. I did get rid yesterday of my coverless, tattered Romeo and Juliet from secondary school. I don’t even like that play…..
Walt Disney-An American Original. On my third copy. Had to get a hardcover because I read it so much that the binding always cracks because of the pages of pictures in the middle
We Have Always Lived in the Castle for me x
