I get too distracted if I read out in public. I’d rather read at home surrounded by pillows and blankets.

Alone. My mind gets interested in people watching if I’m in public. And God forbid reading at lunchtime at the office. I’ll sit at a table, book in hand and people will sit and apologize they are interrupting my reading —- and stay!!

This is the exact reason why I can’t read at the library. I get distracted by all of the people. And I can’t stop myself from picking up all of the books.

I agree, I’m terrible for people watching!

0

I can people watch along with reading but I find reading to be a better way of spending time on the train, like today.

1
SusieQuestion author

I also take the train/bus and I find that I only people watch when they are making an obsessive amount of noise. I was actually thinking about going and riding the train all day tomorrow while reading just to get out of the house. @Walter

There’s nothing like sitting on the balcony of a cruise ship reading or listening to a book. 🙂

3
Isabella

@Kathie Unfortunately I do not handle cruises well.

0
Kathie

My husband didn’t either which is why I was reading on the balcony. He was suffering with a kidney stone for our 10 day cruise. Thank goodness we upgraded to a balcony room. I spent ALOT of time on that balcony.

1
Isabella

@Kathie lol

0
SusieQuestion author

@Kathie Yessss…that’s one of my favorite places to read. I remember one of the boats I was on had a library.

2
Lee

I’m with you there @Kathie. We always pay extra for a balcony just for that very purpose! I love it. ?

1
Kathie

I don’t go anywhere without a book or my MP3 player. So while I feel funny listening to a book on tape in someplace like the doctors office, I don’t have a problem taking my book with me. I’ll even take my book to the casinos because my husband likes to gamble, me, just put me in a corner or at the bar lounge with a book and/or my stitching.

I can read in public as long as nobody is trying to chat with me. At home I generally read in the same spot I watch tv, play around online, games, which is a comfy arm chair by the window. My only complaint is that it’s a bit drafty.

Near water or mountains…I’ll second that Hannah. ?

1
Hannah

@Lee yes. mountains that is a lovely place also!

0
Lee

@Hannah Ha, sorry…I misread your initial comment. I thought you said a lake and mountain! I did think that it must be a pretty big park.

1
Hannah

@Lee no a fountain. it would be pretty big if it had a mountain(LOL) but i do love mountains to and we do have parks about 1 hour away that have views of the mountain because the city is in the mountains and it is stunning there also.

1
Lee

@Hannah I thought you meant something like a National Park, hence the mountain…but, in hindsight, a fountain makes much more sense! ha ha. I try and ski each year and love to sit on the balcony of the hotel, surrounded by the French Alps, and read. Very relaxing.

1
Hannah

@Lee that sounds amazing! and relaxing!
