My fear isn’t that they won’t return the books, but the condition they’ll be returned in. I try to keep my books looking nice and find others don’t really care about that kind of thing. ??‍♀️

I actually LOVE loaning out my books. I’m not much of a re-reader and I find great joy in picking books out that I think people will enjoy. I also have a little free library in front of my house that I put books in also, knowing I likely will never see them again. I get it when people don’t like to loan out though because they really don’t get treated well, if you care about that. I once loaned a brand new hardcover to my MIL and it came back with chocolate smeared all over the pages and the cover ripped. I was a little annoyed she didn’t even apologize for the state of the book on return but I guess chocolate emergencies happen while reading ?

I do loan them out sometimes. But I’m worried about not getting them back or get them back ruined. Has lost one book and has got one back that they had put upside down and also lent out to someone else

I loan out paperback..The hardbacks i keep safe in a glass cabinet. If i like a book enough i will buy it in harback and then don’t mind the paperback not being returned or damaged. But the “library” is out of reach even for my boyfriend ?

Same here!! I loaned my book to a friend and after 6 months I still didn’t have my book back.. I asked her and she told me she already ga e it back to me.. I was at my friends house the other day and saw my book on her bookshelf.. Told her that it was my book and she told me it was her own copy.. Lucky for me I always write my name in my books.. And yeah I opened the book and there was my name?.. Assholes I’m never going to loan out my books..

I’d actually rather buy them a copy to keep (and have done in the past) than lend my books out
