It takes place in 1969, but The Drifters by James Michener is outstanding. It is in the top 5 favorite books I’ve ever read.

Thinking back to the books I read then I have to say Do With Me What You Will by Joyce Carol Oates or The Other Side of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon.

OMG, i inhaled Sidney Sheldon, Jackie Susann, and Harold Robbins in the day. Nothing like reading a book that makes your parents roll their eyes. Did you know that Sidney Sheldon wrote i Dream of Jeannie.

Jane

@Lois I knew he was involved in TV back in the day. Didn’t know about I Dream of Jeannie. Who can forget Valley of the Dolls and Once Is Not Enough by Susann??

Lois

My father picked up my copy of Valley of the Dolls, turned to my mother and said, “What kind of trash are you letting her read?”

Meet the Mulvenys by Joyce Carol Oates was really good, too.
