Oh, I remember those days! Retired now and I kinda miss them…and I kinda don’t! ?

3
Adam

@Barbara I think I will feel the same. A stack of 95 stories came home with me this weekend; only a dent so far. Lots of work. On the other hand, what lovely writing! (at times). Also, I remember how much my teachers’ comments meant to me. Touching to think I am having that same effect on someone.

4
Barbara

Exactly! I taught middle school English. Every weekend I brought home the stack of essays also, a.k.a. Mt. Dunham. My colleagues would wonder why I wrote all those comments in their journals or papers. Like you, to show my students that I actually took the time to read what they had to say. They were always eager to read my comments.

2
Christy

@Adam those comments make a huge difference.

It was one of the best books I have read . I learnt so much about Turkish history. An incredible reading journey. 2 books in one, a novel with diverse characters melded to the history of the time

1

I read Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and loved it. I think I will move Birds Without Wings up on my list.

0

I always have more than one book going. On my Kindle: Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, Truman (biography by David McCullough), just started an Inspector Montalbano mystery The Voice of the Violin, and am re-reading War and Peace. How do you keep the stories in order? Tried that once and failed, lol.

0

I don’t find it any more difficult than keeping up with more than one tv show storyline at a time. Editing to say I can watch Game of Thrones and Big Bang Theory and The Walking Dead and I don’t get the characters or stories confused. To me, reading different books concurrently is no different. But I’m weird anyway. I actually love War and Peace lol.

I’ve read two of his books now (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles) and they both seemed to be inhabited by self-centered, navel-gazing adolescent boys who are more interested in their masturbation techniques than really connecting with anyone (but then I wasn’t a fan of Holden Caulfield either). And I really didn’t like what he did with the talking cats (which was the main reason I picked up the book). 🙁
