I don’t mind that, I can’t stand the story itself…. it’s just so boring

Maybe that’s it. I hate the story!!! Wow.

Really? What did you not like? Watch the movie – Robert Redford version.

0

Not my preferred genre.

1

Couldn’t get through this one either!

1

@Kristen – I hated it too and dropped it only a few pages in. Nothing to do with the story – I loved the Robert Redford film. It was the narrator and his style of talking – which I found intensely irritating.

Catch 22
Captain Corellis Mandalin
Most Jodi Picoult

I think I’m an impatient reader, I get bored with too much romantic prose or political references. I’ll stick to YA ?

2
Reply
Lesley

Interesting you say Captain Corelli..,
I started it several years ago – hated it, necer finished it, but never threw it away… I loved the start of it tbh but just couidht get past it.

Jokingly mentioned it to a friend about two years ago who persuaded me to try again, slowly, patiently, when not working, and to read it over a summer break, in longer time chunks.

Worked perfectly. Loved it!!

If ever there is a book to savour on a hot day, it’s captain Corelli.

1
Natali

I’ve tried it three times, back when the film came out, and always lost interest during the political bits…maybe it’s time to try again? I laughed when my husband said he loved the politics and skipped the love scenes ?

1
Lesley

No harm skipping bits.,. I think I might have done to get through it, it is hard going.
I dId feel rewarded though.
Not my favourite book but overall I did enjoy it – some sections so beautifully written.

I saw the movie first (unusual for me, I normally read the book) – and LOVED it!! Then read the book. The book was AWFUL!! Didnt flow properly, couldnt connect the characters plot etc. If I’d read the book first, Id have missed out on a great film. I think the director is amazing for having made a clever coherent film out of such a non coherent book.
