Have Atlas Shrugged and the Fountianhead. Are any one good?

1
Jennifer

Atlas shrugged is ok. The hardest part of reading it for me was that Rand believed the story should be implemented in real life… but if you just take it as a work of fiction it’s ok. Same thing applies to Fountainhead.

“…And Ladies of the Club”, both hardcover and paperback are well over 1,000 pages, but that mattered little; I loved every bit of it, so much so it became my favorite book of all time. GWTW’s mass-market edition is 1027 pages; read that so much, it fell in half. “War and Peace” and “Les Miserables”, also well over 1000, were great in their own right.

Ildefonso Falcones. Author from Spain. it is set in 16th century, and it is about a boy Fernando, who’s mother was a muslim, raped by a priest, and so in both religions they decline him. Then Fernando recruits in the royal army, and now church wants him, but he is not sure which religion is right, and he meet this girl Fatima, but they are not destined because her parents are pure muslim and see him as a christian. it have 980 pages, and it’s pretty hard book to read, because it describes some brutal events of this time. Enjoy 😉

The Bible (took me 7 months to finish it). Reading word for word, line by line not skipping a single paragraph. I’m not sure I’d use the word ‘enjoy’ to describe my reading experience. Though my motivation for reading it was not for enjoyment it was to educate myself on exactly what was and was not in the Bible. There was a sense of accomplishment when I finished unlike any other book I’ve read.

Thanks for the tips!. Over time I have read several (semi) scientific books. An interesting one, also read by (study)friends of mine: ‘A short history of nearly everything’ by Bill Bryson.

0
Els

Recently I have got a copy of ‘Bad science’ by Ben Goldacre from an acquintance who studies and works in Chemistry.

0
Els

Another recommendation: Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari. A book I enjoyed, but also an acquintance of my who is really not at home at science.

0
Els

@Joel, I am biomedical trained, but working in chemistry for several years now. I am not into hardcore chemistry, as this would take me a lot of effort to understand proper. My direct boss, a chemist, always had a lot of fun with a former colleague (also trained in chemistry), about chemical errors they encountered in customer questions, law- and regulations and so on. I am doing my best, but a lot of it goes past me ??
