When people rave about books I download a free sample to my Kindle before I commit myself. I did that with Eleanor Oliphant and have to say it left me cold!
I find it either saves me money by not buying it or time and effort by going to the library. Ive gotten to the stage in my life whereby I don’t want to read books I don’t like or enjoy. Main reason why I have never been tempted to join a book club….can’t bear the thought of trudging through a book someone else has chosen! Grumpy old moo. ??
Hmmm, either Children of Blood & Bone, The Hazel Wood, or Shatter Me. I know the latter has been out for, like, a million years, but I’ve only just got around to it! I also loved Nevermoor & The Truth and Lies of Ella Black!
@Janice Tahereh Mafi! I’ve just read the first 3 books back to back & they are amazing! I loved them all! Going to start the new one, Restore Me, later!
Haven’t read any 5 star books yet this year…..I HAVE read several graphic novel/comic series that I’ve loved. Saga, Ms. Marvel, Y The Last Man and Alex + Ada…..been checking them out from library and read them in between my books 🙂
Unless… I guess it counts if I’ve read a few stories in the Verne compilation book. There’s seven in there and I’ve gone through three… So I guess my favorite since New Years would be Journey to the Center of the Earth 😀
I’ve read three wonderful books so far this year so I will post them separately. This was the first one in January. A beautiful classic, it’s now one of my all-time favorites.
This memoir I read in March is a true gem for animal lovers. Beautiful, poignant, and very well written. It made me smile a lot and cry like a baby towards the end. I loved it!
Loved The Portrait of Molly Dean by Katherine Korvacic, also the factual account of the unsolved Molly Dean murder, written by Gideon Haigh… A Scandal in Bohemia.
