What’s more likely to draw you into reading a book? The cover, the blurb or an author you recognise?

Author x
The author and then the cover. Very rare I read the blurb
Author. Look at cover then read blurb.
The cover always attracts my attention. If it’s a boring cover then I tend to think it’s probably a boring book.
I’d say a mix of all 3. That plus the first couple of lines. If the first sentence doesn’t peak my interest I usually don’t bother with it
If it’s not an author I am familiar with,I read the blurb, and then some of the reviews..although I wouldn’t rely totally on the reviews, but they do give an idea or 2 if its worth going for.
The cover will draw me to the book in the first instance. The author and blurb is usually what sells it to me though x
The blurb is most likely to draw me in AFTER the cover has caught my eye. Nothing will turn me off a book quicker than a bad cover. I know that shouldn’t be the case but it’s true.
Blurb for me. First, foremost and every time. Mainly interested in words, not images.
Author first, blurb second
Cover first. Blurb second. Author third.
Blurb for me first ?
Blurb first for me too
If I’ve never read the author. Cover then blurb. If I’ve read the author before. Blurb then cover.
I’m the same as Betsy – but then the first page is also important especially if I like the style of an unfamiliar writer.
Cover, blurb… I’m actually ear marking an event due to the book cover being enticing, that I want to go hear more… and the book isn’t my usual type of read.
Cover first. I saw a beautiful cover on twitter and clicked the link. The burb was meh so I clicked the ‘look inside’ option. The writing was uninspired. All I could think was, what a waste of a great cover.
See my answer, hope it isn’t same book ?
This was a crime book so I think you’re safe. ?
@Emma – thanks.
I hope the other one works out. What genre was it?
@Emma can’t remember could be Crime
Cover then blurb if it’s an author unknown to me. There seems to be a glut of very similar covers around at the moment though.
Unknown: Cover then blurb
Known: Blurb then cover
Agree with both.
In this order – genre, cover, price, blurb, author
Price factor does come into it too!
Lately it’s the cover. I know it’s superficial but if I like the cover I read the blurb. Then if I like the sound of it I buy the book.
Maybe all of that
I follow authors I like. If a book is by an author I haven’t read, then the cover/title first attracts me, then I’ll read the blurb and see if that pulls me in.
Author but cover and blurb too
Author first, every time.
Blurb then author
I have to say cover then blurb.
The cover every time
As they say, never judge a book by its cover, but I do!!!
Author then cover and occasionally might read the blurb
Author, Susan x
The Cover and then the blurb.?
The blurb or the author for me.
An author I recognise. A new author I read the feedback first.
Any of them lol.
Blurb
I’m often attracted to a new author by the cover. Then blurb.
Genre (crime most likely), and an author I admire (@Stuart.
Author ?
Author, genre, blurb ?
The Author then the cover and my instinct is always right.?
Author first, cover 2nd, blurb can make me put the book back on the shelf.
A tacky cover puts me off straight away but if I like that I’ll read the blurb. Until recently I followed favourite authors but am now trying all new ones. Got to share the love!!
I have forsaken my favourite famous authors for some absolutely brilliant not so famous authors!
Author then read the cover
For me, at one time it was always an authors’ name I recognised, still is. but different authors now. It’s all about the blurb for me.
Favourite authors, recommendations, blurb. Never covers.
The Blurb
The book!
