I don’t really read autobiographies. But if you’ve seen the film “October Sky’s” I’d recommend the book on which it is based: “Rocket Boys” by Homer Hickam

What examples of “fractured fairy tales?”

0
Vicki

Ellen Datlow edited a series of titles, each with a different theme, written by various writers, that looked at old stories, then twisted them a bit..one title, The Fairy’s Handbag (I believe..will look up later and revise), centered on fairy stories. Other titles we’re about shape shifters or vampires. Another book, edited by Piers Anthony, Tales From the Turtle’s Back, was a collection of Native American folk tales retold or reinvented.

1
Vicki

I forgot to add the fantasy genre to my list..

The Faery Reel..Teri Winderling was also involved in many of these compilations.

@Graham no, do tell

0

He was an alternate history writer who passed recently. His first book – which I lovvvvved – was called “1901.” He imagined a scenario (which was actually considered in real life) where Kaiser Wilhelm invaded the Northeastern US in order to coerce America into yielding the possessions it seized from Spain to Germany.

Goodreads only has 3.6 rating, but I’ll give it a try, adding it to my wishlist thanks
