Physical copy for sure

If I like the book I want a physical copy for my shelf. That way, no matter what, I have a way to read it. In just reading it I prefer an ereader. I can take my kindle anywhere without worry about it fitting in my purse or the book getting damaged too badly.

It helps me from being distracted when I read an ebook. If I read on my phone I end up distracted on another app

1
AnitaQuestion author

ah yes the less distractions the better

Kindle, I have terrible eyesight & it’s not fully corrected even with contacts. I love being able to make the font larger! It’s also small and lightweight which makes it easier to juggle with a baby.

Physical copy!

I love its weight, the texture and sound of the pages as you turn them; the smell of new books fresh from the shop, old books and that extra special scent of an old library book. Mmm.

And displaying your very own personal library is so satisfactory, even being the only one to see it. ❤❤❤

Omg I completely agree with you. It is just so satisfying ^_^. Btw did any of the books you ordered come in yet?

1

@Anita Two so far! – ‘Exit West’ and ‘The Weight of Ink- – the only brand new books in my massive book haul; the rest are secondhand and should be here by next Wednesday-Friday. *excited dance*

1
AnitaQuestion author

EEK!!! Im excited for you!!! Im really curious what books you have coming in. I have a request. When they come in can you message me pictures of them? ?. *happy dance for you for getting books*

1

@Anita I will do that! ❤❤❤

I love the feel/smell of a book… but… i can’t keep but a few collectors. My son is allergic to something created by books that sit on a book shelf. Even if they are dusted. Maybe mites or something..i don’t know. But his face/lips have swelled twice after drinking from something he set on my old bookshelf. After removing the books/washing shelf, haven’t had an issue since! I still think he got switched at birth… kid can’t stand reading/books and is literally allergic to them… ugh..

1
Reply
AnitaQuestion author

aww poor son. Allergies are the worst. Since you cant keep many books at home do you read on a kindle or no?

0
Sadie

@Anita – yes! I have a kindle and an audible account. As well as an overdrive account linked to all my local libraries! I still have a small group of paper books in my closet. But as I read them, I give them away.

1

I fought this for years, I railed on the superiority of physical books. I finally gave in and haven’t looked back

My kindle has a backlight for reading in the dark without a lamp.

My kindle lets me look up words to expand my vocabulary

My kindle lets me clip quotes I like and saves them in a journal

My kindle links to good books to log my reading

My kindle allows me to carry 50 books in my back pocket.

Love my kindle!

I almost exclusively read fiction and listen to non fiction.

1

@Anita I find it very engaging to listen to history or science stuff while I’m driving

1

@Anita I couldn’t sit around the house and listen to an audio book but it works well while driving

Physical or audio. I recently contacted Mindori Snyder, a favorite author of mine because I can’t find an audio version of her book, The Innamorati. It turns out there isn’t one available, but she’s been approached by an audiobook company.

1
Reply
AnitaQuestion author

I have a hard time with audio. It turns into background noise for me and I space out. I need to be reading it to understand what is going on

0
Aikatryn

I zone out without background noise and don’t stay on task. I get my chores done and I carve wood with books going and my focus is effective. I am a bit adhd tho.

2
AnitaQuestion author

For me its because I listen to music all the time with earphones in as background noise, so when I try audio I unintentionally do the same thing and lose focus on the book. When I am physically reading a book the focus is there.

I prefer books. I love the smell of the glue and paper, the feeling of the texture against my fingers. I love the physical weight of a book. I love seeing the words in print.

That said I will also listen to audio books and read from electronic devices. Love of books knows no limits.

On the downside of books, the print is small and I can see a time coming when that will be a hindrance and I may wish to have the ebooks simply because of that. But reading a screen isn’t always best for me either. Let’s hope there is another option in the future.

I’ve run out of shelf space years ago, so I’m onboard with the Kindle. A nice leather case makes it feel like a book in your hand.

If I really, really love a book, I’ll pick it up in hardcover down the road, just to have it on my shelf. ?

2

AnitaQuestion author

Im iffy on a kindle due to me not wanting to have yet another screen to look at. (I look at a screen all day for work)

1
Brian

I know that feeling. Between work computer, phone, Kindle, tablet, etc., it’s a nice change to read an actual book with no screen.

I have the Paperwhite, so at least it is just black “ink” on white screen, and you can adjust the brightness and font size as you go.

1

All the screens just give me a headache so just being able to read with a physical book is very satisfying ^_^

When it comes to actual reading, I have no preference. I use a tablet or my phone a lot simply because I have all my favourite books on there. If I’m trying a series or author for the first time, it will usually be a physical book because I bought it cheap in a charity shop or from a second-hand seller and if it’s a DNF, I can just give it back.

1
Reply
AnitaQuestion author

oooo nice so you are open to any option just as long as you can still read?

Always prefer a physical book but kindle is easier for me to take out and about as I finish books so fast and can just move onto the next one ? plus I find books on there I would never look at in a shop

2

I’ve noticed I associate books with the cover. Seeing a cover from thirty years ago brings the book floodng back into my memory. Conversely, I struggle to recall ebooks because I’ve no “hook” to hang the memory of the book on.
