LOTR is the “original” so to speak, when it comes to fantasy, but I say both. They’re different stories, so I love them both for different reasons.

If I have to choose it’ll be Lord Of The Rings!

Iโ€™ve never read LOTR but Iโ€™ve always been intrigued. I am however a die hard HP fan.

I prefer Lord of the Rings, but I know there are a lot of people who have trouble getting into it, partially due to how overly descriptive Tolkien tends to be. I like Harry Potter, too, though.

I adore both of these series – I could never pick between the two.
But, in all honesty, Harry Potter is an easier read than LOTR. When I am in a reading slump HP is a guaranteed read for me to get back into it and LOTR probably wouldnโ€™t do that. So in that sense I couldnโ€™t still pick between the two because it would be like picking favourites between your children. Or pets.

It depends on what you’re looking for. Both are amazingly developed worlds with beautiful characters, but they have thier differences. In my opinion, Harry Potter is much easier to read than Lord of the Rings, but Lord of the Rings is better written.

I don’t think they can be compared. Lord of the rings is a more difficult read and better for an older audience than harry potter.

They’re just not in the same league and it’s unfair to both works to compare them.

(I disliked lord of the rings tho. .i found it very boring ).

Oh man. Thatโ€™s like Star Wars or Star Trek. DC or Marvel. Apples or oranges. I canโ€™t compare the two or choose. Both!

Harry Potter is the easier read, but Middle Earth is a more fleshed out and complete Universe.

I think in the modern era, Harry Potter has an edge simply because it’s more balanced in presenting female and male heroes. But LoTR will always be important as the originator. ?

LoTR the whole way. I’ve never liked Harry Potter, as in the book series. I couldn’t get into them for some reason. But I love all the LoTR and HP movies.

Harry Potter and The Lord Of The Rings are two different legendary series, if you ask me. The Harry Potter series is a mysterious fiction, in which you are taken to a world of wizardry and battle against darkness, during which you learn to love the characters and the setting. Whereas The Lord Of The Rings is but an epic conquest against darkness, an adventure of a lifetime, during which you learn about the main characters and their endeavors both mental and physical along the way, and you fall in love with the legacy that is being shared with you. Although both of the series are incomparable, I would have to go with THE LORD OF THE RINGS series as the books truly fill my spirit of adventure. Breathtaking.

It depends on the time you have and your mood. You want a light read then Harry Potter. If you have the entire weekend then LOTR.

Harry Potter is easier to read, especially if you’re younger. LOTR is really great, but it took me ages to get through them, mostly because I’m not a native english speaker and tried to read them at like 14/15.

In my opinion, Harry Potter is more โ€œfunโ€ and has more action. Hobbit/LOTR is โ€œdeeperโ€ and more descriptive. Both are great but in different styles, HP was written with children in mind as readers, so it is generally easier to read. But I agree, I love them both!

For me personally: Harry Potter.
Interestingly, The Hobbit is one of my very favorite books, but I could not get into Lord of the Rings books. I’ve tried about 5 times. I love the movies, though!

It took me a number of attempts to get into the first of the trilogy. Now I love it and the movies are a Regular marathon in my place. ?

You’ve probably had trouble reading Lord of the Rings due to the amount of detail in it. The Hobbit was written as a children’s story & is therefore less detailed than it’s sequel. You can always try the audiobook if you’re still interested in tackling it. Sometimes it’s easier to listen to a book than to read it.

Harry Potter was definitely more enjoyable to read in my opinion, just because LOTR was just pretty slow at points. However, I’m definitely a bigger LOTR fan.
