One of the Shillouette biographies. Not positive which one, but it may have been Dolly Madison as I remember my sister talking about it and I always followed after her reading choices when I first started reading.

I don’t remember the title but it was a biography of Abe Lincoln. I wasn’t a big reader as a kid but when my great grandfather died we cleaned out the house and he had a ton of books, this one in particular seemed easy to read (not very long, large print, pictures) and I must have just learned something about Lincoln to get me interested, but I read it all the way through.

They were a series of biographies of historical figures. Among them were the life stories of Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, and George Washington Carver. I think George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well. It was surprising I found the first three because this was in the third grade just prior to desegregation of Alabama schools. I always remembered those three books and glad for having read them.
