Oh gosh, I couldn’t remember. I bought books at the scholastic book fair since I was old enough to be in school. My mom always let me buy whatever I wanted, so I may as well have been buying them by myself. It was also frequent that my mom would give me some money and just set me free in the local Waldenbooks. My book purchasing was never very monitored.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I was 10 at the time and I thought the book has illustrations, but turned out it hasn’t because it’s classic novel and Wordsworth is thw publishing company. Anyhow, i enjoyed reading it, when I turned 13. Lol.
Archie , Archie and Veronica, Betty and Veronica.. got a numerous collection of it. Some being borrowed by friends and never been returned… then started liking Judith McNaught and bought “Someone to watch over me” .. i was in highschool then.. but never let anyone borrow ever again
I have no idea the title or the author. But it was a picture book about the opera at night. Al of the music instruments had a big debate on who was the best and most important one of all. In the end some humble little bell or flute of sorts, I do not recall the details, argued that they had equal worth in a symphony exactly because of their cooperation. This was back in communist Poland. I distictly remember standing on my toes and reaching up to place the money on that little shelf in front of the newsstand booth. Newsstands would sell all sorts of things, like chewing gum and small toys. I made my mum stand a few steps behind me so that I could pretend I was out on my own.
Love Match by Barbara Steiner… LOL, it was a YA romance and I got it from the book fair. I still have it. The cover came off but I read it ever once and a while for nostalgia sake.
