That was a good one! If you liked it, you might also like Night by Elie Wiesel. I’ve also heard good things about Born a Crime by Trevor Noah as well as The Girl With Seven Names by Hyeonseo Lee and David John, but haven’t yet read either of them.

What a massive list! On it, I’ve only read Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me? and A Child Called It. Of the others, what would you say are your top 5, non-self-help picks? Also, have you read The Happiness Project? One of the only self-help books I’ve read but I enjoyed it.
When I made this list I really had to restrain myself with every non-fiction book that I’ve ever found to be good and only put what I thought was really great. Obviously I do read a lot of self help.
The Happiness Project is on my tbr list. So maybe I will get to it this year.
my favorite non self-help book is probably she said yes about one of the girls who was shot in columbine. I also really liked the Jaycee Dugard book (but I wasn’t a fan of her second book). Down the Rabbit hole about life in the playboy mansion was very eye opening and I was very surprised by how much I liked that book. I wasn’t a gilmore girl die hard but I watched it some and really enjoyed talking as fast as I can (on audio). then Is Everyone hanging out without me (also on audio because I like when author/comedians read there own stuff)
Thank you!! I will add these to my tbr list. I also enjoyed Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me on audio – and agree about enjoying authors reading their own books.
– the Universe in a single atom – Daring Greatly – the art of happiness – love by Leo Buscaglia – 7 habits of effective people – 5 love languages – how to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk
Ooh I’ve heard of Daring Greatly before and this is the second time it’s been recommended, so definitely on my tbr list now. I’ve actually heard of a few of these but not through recommendation, so good to know I should read them too!
I usually read fictions, but indeed there are a few non-fictions I read this year and last year. Things I enjoyed reading were
-‘Why Gender Matters’ written by Leonard Sax ( I would give three stars out of five, because I don’t agree with every point of his views and most cases dealt reflect US environment. But I understood better why boys/men act certain way. Not peefect, but worth giving it a try) -‘We should all be Feminists’ : Personally, I liked this one better than ‘Bad Feminist’ written by Roxanne Gay. -‘Art of Loving’ by Erich Fromm (Except for his view on gay relationship, I find his views pretty much persuasive.) -Bad Feminist
Thank you for this list! I’ve read Roxane Gay’s Hunger and have heard of Bad Feminist, but I’ve been curious about Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s books ever since I saw her Ted Talk on The Danger of a Single Story (have you seen it?). Have you also by chance read her newest book? If so, what did you thinkg?
@Elyse Oh! Just thought of another one you might enjoy: Scar Tissue. It’s Anthony Kiedis’ memoir – he’s the lead singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers. His life has been all kinds of tumultuous and interesting. And it helps if you like their music because he includes some lyrics based on inspiration from his life.
I like most of Andrew Napolitano’s work. He’s very libertarian. Eric Metaxas is good. As is David McCullough.
Are those all history? I know David McCullough but haven’t heard of the others.
Metaxas is history and biography. Napolitano is government.
Metaxas might be more along my interests – thanks; I’ll check him out!
@Eri The Glass Castle I think that’s the only one lol
American Kingpin!
Whoa that one looks really interesting! Thanks for the recommendation!

I think Night is in my tbr I will for sure check out the other ones!
The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule
I didn’t read this one last month and I don’t think is the kind of book for me… but thanks anyway for the rec!
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It reads kind of like fiction but with real depth to the characters.
I read this last year and found it so interesting! Definitely a good rec.
The Diary of Anne Frank
In Cold Blood
Oh yes! I have wanted to read his one but forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder!

Such a good one! I read it several years ago.
What book are you talking about
@Angela The Diary of Anne Frank. Though I guess Night is also such a good one and a book I read several years ago. ?
Oh ok and I read The Diary of Anne Frank last year and it was good
– the Universe in a single atom
– Daring Greatly
– the art of happiness
– love by Leo Buscaglia
– 7 habits of effective people

@Eri To be honest, I’m not an avid viewer of TED, so no..I haven’t watched it.
I highly recommend it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg
Okay, thanks!
