Least favorite: •Domineering mothers •Family members & friends who insist the heroine needs a man •Heroines who never: have a working cellphone/tell someone where they’re going–and someone tries to kill them.
In YA novels I hate when their parents are non-existent or act like they don’t care (If they have good parents.) I mean, what loving, caring mother is hardly going to blink an eye when little 16-year-old Susie goes off to save the world? That mom’s going to have something to say about that. She’s going to care. In the YA book that I’m writing, the parents are very much a part of the series. Because they care (most of them) about their kids and they pay attention to what they’re doing.
Favorite tropes: epic adventure to stop the ultimate evil, sarcastic sidekick/best friend
Hated trope: every freaking character has to have a love interest OR love triangles, pretty girl is pretty but constantly says she isn’t, all the while attracting every male character in the story, abusive behavior explained away because the abuser has a tragic past
Fav is healthy relationships, supportive people around, flawed characters, strong characters
Hated is abusive relationship being romanticized, characters who surround themselves with people who aren’t aupportive, characters who do not much, evil step mums are evil because they are jelous of step daughters beauty
Least favorite: Abusive bad boy gets the girl, love triangles, female character is “badass” because males taught her, etc. I hate a lot of sexist tropes honestly. My favorite is probably Found Family or like….healthy romance relationships lol
Favorite: from hate to love
Least favorite: instant love
Agreed! Insta-love ruins it!
Least favorite: knight in shining armor trope
The butler did it!!!!
Least Favorites: Hate love relationships, assassin and the prey storylines. Both are such over used cliches.
Favorites: anything original.
The same as @Alexis,hate to love. But I also hate instant love. I like a slow burn.
I hate popular girl falls for nerdy guy.
Fave – from hate to love, friends to lovers, opposites attract.
Least fave- insta love, the chosen one , I’m not like other girls & love triangle.
female detective you dates 2 different guys and then marries a third.

Favorite: male and female relationships that are truly platonic. Least favorite: love triangles, women protagonists who are always saved by a man.

the deus ex machina that makes no sense but pulls the whole story forward because the author does not know how to finish their book…
I both hate and adore love at first sight/soul mates. ?
