I was reading Bad Monkey by Carl Hiiasen and I had to put it down bc it kept dragging… It started out so good too!!! Should I force to keep going?

0
Cynthia

Nah….he may not be your cup of tea. If I feel like a book is dragging I do not make myself trudge on. I don’t remember”Bad Monkey” specifically. All his books make me laugh out loud. If your try another one of his and feel the same way then he probably is just not for you. People find different things humorous. Karl Hiassen lives in Florida where I have spent some time …a lot of his humor is poking fun at Floridians…

1
Kerri

yes this one takes place in Fl. There are some laugh out loud parts for sure!! I like the parts with the main character but when it leaves him to go to other things going on is when it gets a little boring. I may pick it up and try again another time and see if I just need to get through this section… ?

The Muslim bible is the Qur’an

0
Steve

Ah. Now I see. I also see that you have edited the spelling in your original post.

1
Darren

Yeah…its early and yeah

0
Steve

Have you read it then? I keep meaning to. My son has, when he was dating a lovely Muslim girl, and said that it’s a good read. She read the bible in return.

0
Darren

In my opinion, they all read like fantasy books and mythology.

0

A religious book is funny? When I go to Amazon it pulls up Qur’an.

1
Darren

The question was asked, I gave my opinion

0
Cathy

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt.
Have a good day ??

1
Darren

My opinion only. You asked

0
Steve

But have you read it?

0
Darren

Yes I have

0
Dhia

can u tell specifically the part that made u laugh ?

0
Steve

Which bits were particularly funny. I cited Tom Sharpe’s The Throwback and found it hilarious – especially the scene with LSD tripping dog.

0
Steve

@Darren that’s great. I applaud your open mindedness (assuming that you are not a Muslim. Forgive me if your are, Sir)

0
Steve

I haven’t assumed you are a bad person. I’ve just applauded you for your open mindedness.

1
Dhia

@Darren no one said that u r a bad person .. after all u didnt say nothing bad ! but as a muslim (not extremiste) i just want some clarification for the thing that make u laugh for it

2
Darren

@Dhia. The whole story is unbelievable and funny in a off way. I just find it funny in a black humor way, no particular part stood out, just the sum of the whole book. Like I stated, its my opinion. I do not dislike any religion or person. I am not that person that thinks if you read the Qur’an, your a Muslim extremist or terrorist. Also, if you read the bible, I’m not saying your a Christian extremist either. Religion is a personal choice and I don’t judge.

1
Dhia

@Darren well said .. i feel the same way , there are some stories in quraan are funny for sure , i’ve also read the bible ( not all of it ) it”s quiet different from the quraan is the way of writing but share most religion standers

2
Darren

Thanks. Everyone is going to have a different opinion to my comment, and that’s understandable in this day and age. This shouldn’t turn into a religious post and I hope it doesn’t

1
Will

I never thought thr qur’an was funny just thought it was dry like the torah. The bible was good tho.

The satanist bible made me laugh so much. Every few pages i had to stop because it was just so stupid.

I know, me too! Do you remember the part when he had been drinking that farmer’s wine all day and then had to go deliver a calf plastered? OMG that was the first time I ever laughed out loud!

0
Lyric

I think my favorite scene was when Tristan mistakenly shipped a stool sample James had prepared for the lab instead to a difficult sheep farmer with instructions to rub it in thoroughly.

1
Christine

I laughed so hard at that part too! Poor Tristan! I’ve got to put those books on my TBR (again) list! I enjoyed the series on TV also. The actors were so convincing that you felt they were the REAL vets!

Agreed. I thought the TV series was the best book to screed adaptation I’ve ever encountered.

All of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. They are designed to make you laugh. Inept Stephanie; hot cop Joe; super hot Ranger; crazy Grandma Mazur; and the way Stephanie’s vehicles have such a short life span (blown up, fire, flattened by dump truck of a building falling on them); Grandma Mazur’s funeral viewing habits & attempts to look in the closed coffins; Bob the dog; Randy the little person accountant/hacker; Lula who wears neon spandex thats 2 sizes too small for her plus sized body; Lula’s crazy diets to lose weight (eat only bacon, as much as you want & the weight will just fall off). Lots of stuff to laugh at.

0

@Vasudha I didn’t find the movie at all funny, pretty disturbing actually!

1
Vasudha

@Brian I watched it, and I feel that due to the complexity of it, it shouldn’t have been made into a movie. Maybe a series. I feel because of the limited time, non-readers were not able to enjoy it as much ad they should have. They tried to create a bit of laughter in the Cavendish scenes but the book was way better. ?

Leslie

That just sounded a bit odd, because on the whole it’s definitely not a funny book. But I’m sure there are some funny moments. 🙂 (It’s been a long time since I read it.)

1
A'Lisa

You’re right. The story itself isn’t funny, but there are scenes where the narrator perfectly portrayed the character that were funny. This is one of my all-time favorite books. I thoroughly enjoyed the audio version. That’s all I meant.

1
Leslie

I have it on my wish list at Audible – guess I should get it. 🙂

0
A'Lisa

I “think” it was Frank Muller’s rendition.

1
Leslie

A’Lisa Aust Ratledge I could only find Frank Muller reading The Prince of Tides, so maybe that’s what you’re thinking of. Beach Music has an abridged version read by Peter MacNicol and and unabridged one by Jonathan Marosz. Both wonderful books!

0
A'Lisa

I borrowed it from the library. Maybe they can check my record, but it was years ago. https://www.recordedbooks.com/title-details/9781449871871
