Gabe Harmon, I agree. A longer book gives me time to really inhabit a world and the characters. Plus, it’s a great deal for the money! And on my Kindle, big books are as light as short ones.?
I just read Stephen Kings new novel, Elevation. It is a little book of less than 150 pages. I found it engrossing and enjoyed reading it very much. A novelists write a story the length it should be sometimes it is long and other times the story is short. But if it is well written it really doesn’t matter.
I think books have become sagas. Most are more than 400 pages!
I like books around 300 pages but if the book is very good it doesn’t matter. I just tell myself I got a trilogy for the price of one book.

I guess it has its appeal to some. I think I lack concentration and a shorter book holds it longer. Who knows.

Sometimes I want a big saga, if it is well written. There are times I want a shorter novel that doesn’t take me a month to finish.

My thoughts exactly!! Most can easily lose 100 pages!! Cozy mysteries are the only ones, I’ve found.
