Yeah, I found a great hardback copy of Great Expectations at a thrift store, then came home to put it next to Tale of Two Cities before realising there was already a copy sitting there! I kept the new one and gave the old one to my cousin, so no harm really done, but I don’t like doing that.

I’m fine if it’s sets just not so good with individuals

Do either goodreads or librarything use a barcode scanner? I don’t typically buy duplicates but there have been days I want to by a sequel and can only picture the cover. I have over 300 books so manual entry is not something I want in my life

Librarything has an app that has a barcode scanner. It works great. ?

Goodreads app has a scanner that you do have to use everytume you buy a new book so that you keep track. Can be time consuming though but well worth it so you don’t buy a book twice by accident.

You could probably make a shelf on goodreads to track the ones you own.. I haven’t done it, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work

I use Libib, but it doesn’t count multiple copies of books. (I like to buy more than one copy of certain books that I love, if I find a new cover, or if I just want to have one to keep nice, and one to highlight/annotate in.)

Libib app on my phone. it lets me scan the barcodes of the books fairly quickly. The only downside is that the manual isbn input is sort of hidden. (it’s on the same screen as the barcode scanner, you just tap the top of the screen)

I have bought so many duplicates by mistake that I finally said enough and thanks to someone in this group I found Book Crawler and absolutely love it. I have Goodreads but I only keep track there of what I’ve read or I’m currently reading, not the books I own. I have over 1,000 books in print (not even gonna tell you how many ebooks) and for years I have written down on my phone notes what I own but it’s a pain to look through because of the amount of books I have. With Book Crawler it’s easy now. I know there are many other apps and I have tried a few but they have a limit, like 50 to scan or 100 and I needed something that could let me scan/add over 1000.

Book Catalogue. I scan the ISBN into my phone and then when I’m book shopping, I can pull it up and see if I already have it. I have almost 2000 physical books, so it really helps.

Errmm…maybe I should track all the books I own. I got to 1,000 when I was packing them to move here, then I packed my partner’s books and got to 1,000 when I was packing his. I wonder how long it will go through 2,000 books (the printed kind btw). 😀

@Heather If it makes you feel better, my spine is disintegrating instead. ?

@Linda oh girl. That does NOT make me feel better! Hugs.

1
Linda

@Heather Cheers for the hugs X
I have to keep the self deprecating humour up or I’ll fall apart. Disc Degenerative Disease causing chronic pain is the pits. At least I have books to devour!

0
Heather

@Linda wow. Girl, you are too young for that!! I have three bulging discs and fibro and that’s enough of a handful. Try to stay positive. If you ever want to talk…

1
Linda

@Heather Thank you. I was diagnosed in my early twenties. Had one disectomy 5 years ago and looking at more surgeries in the near future. The latest concern is bone spurs sticking into the thecal sac protecting my spinal cord so I’m getting an MRI asap.

0
Heather

@Linda can relate to the bone spurs. I’m a candidate for a disc replacement, but those are not very reliable. As I’m sure you know. Putting it off as long as possible

1
Linda

@Heather It’s horrible isn’t it. I have so many things wrong with my spine that they honestly don’t know where to begin. The severe central canal stenosis is an issue too. I’m honestly scared of ending up paralyzed one of these days. I’ve been warned the symptoms to look out for.

0
Linda

@Heather They were going to do a fusion but chose the disectomy instead which was just a patch job. They knew it was only going to get worse. I’m terrified of going back in for more surgery.

0
Heather

I’m so sorry! Because that’s where my issues end and I’m struggling. Can’t imagine what you are dealing with. I do understand the fear of it getting worse though.

1
Heather

@Linda my doc suggested I wait as long as possible because the surgery is getting better…more accurate. Maybe this one will be better than your last. Do you have a good doctor?

0
Linda

@Heather He’s ok. I have to push him a lot to get him to take things further though which is frustrating to no end. He often tells me to ring the pain clinic, the MRI people, physio, the orthopedic department, the back Assessment clinic, etc. I try to tell him that’s his job as I’ve tried and don’t have the authority without my GP putting in a request. I had an MRI scheduled for late July but a Doctor at my local hospital saw my CT scan results and wants it done asap to get a clearer picture in case the spurs are at risk of puncturing the thecal sac and turning my current situation into an emergency op. I just take each day as it comes. To make things even harder my beloved Mum passed away at 69 on April 15. We were very close. She had a lot of spinal issues very similar to mine and was my rock. Without her everything seems just that much harder to cope with.

0
Heather

@Linda wow, you really have had a rough go of it. I’m so sorry to hear that. Do you have a support system? Family?

0
Linda

@Heather I have an amazing partner who has my back (pun intended) and a sister who although leads a hectic lifestyle makes time for me. I’m not very close with my Dad and other family members unfortunately. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without the love and support of my fiancee.

Heather

do you mind if i send you a friend request so we can chat occasionally? I’d love to keep in touch with you…

I just bought a read cool leather notebook about a year ago that has a saying on it and I write down what books i have read, which ones I want to read, extra. It’s actually really great, it’s old school lol it’s more personal to me. Then I add stuff on the pages in the journal that are reading related and anything else I think is cute and so it’s also kinda scrapbook. The inside cover is totally covered like a collage and I should post some pics

1
Allison

@Sarah I’d love to see pics. I’ve looked at a lot of pre-made ones, and given a bit of thought to making my own, but am struggling with decision paralysis.
