@Bruce, I was reading the description on this. It looks good, but where does Christmas come in? Thanks!

0
Bruce

Opening is around Christmas if I remember correctly. Then there are a few Christmases throughout the book. I wouldn’t say it’s a “Christmas book”. But when I read a couple years ago during Christmas it really put me in the spirit.

Oooh! I have a good one: “Jacob T. Marley” by William Bennett. It’s the backstory to “A Christmas Carol” and is so, so good.

I read this every year during December. So poignant, and beautifully written.

Mary Moorman -just like at my grandmother’s. Fruitcake and fresh apple cake were two things Nana took seriously about Christmas. Not every year was a good year for pecans-some years there were little to be found.

This is a great one.

A Christmas Treasury of Yuletide Stories and Poems edited by James Charlton and Barbara Gilson. It’s filled with stories from classic authors like J.M. Barrie, Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, and Nathaniel Hawthorne. A Newbery Christmas edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Charles G. Waugh is an anthology of fourteen short stories written by authors who won the Newbery Medal for children’s literature. If you’re in a murderous frame of mind, “The Mistletoe Murder and Other Stories” by P.D. James is quite good. It features two stories starring Adam Dalgliesh, her poet-detective character.

All of the Christmas books by Donna VanLiere! Start with The Christmas Shoes and go from there. Every book is stand alone, but the character stories overlap throughout, so it’s really fun when a familiar name pops up in a new book! She usually releases a new one every year close to Christmas.
