I have three folders on my kindle ‘Read’, ‘Nit Read’ and ‘Started’ (sometimes I start a book and if I’m not enjoying it I file it away and may go back to it.
You never through a good book no matter what. I have bookshelf with about 70 books that my husband whines about, but he doesn’t realize I have about 4000 books on a usb.?????
Sorry people I don’t have a Kindle, I have a Lazer so all our books are brought and saved on our main computers, everyone I know did not buy a Kindle as to controlling.
Keep them on my Kindle for easy future reference. The only exceptions are the files I get from NetGalley as they are too large to keep on my Kindle. I download them, read and review, then send them back to the cloud. I keep both read and unread in collections, which makes them easy to locate.
I have just signed up to ‘good reads’ so hopefully I will be able to keep a record on that. My kindle is getting so slow, I try not to leave too much on there, probably have about 100 books to read and 60 odd that I have read, so fingers crossed if I don’t over load it it won’t keel over and die on me! ?
Just click “remove from device” Pam, then if you try to order something you have already read it will tell you that you already have the book in your library.
To keep it clutter free once Ive read them I put them in to folders e.g. thrillers, true life, non-fiction. If they are in a folder Ive read them if they are not then they are on the to read list x
You all deleting things hurts my soul. ? I just remove them from my home screen and live happily ever after. That way I can easily read them again if I wish. Now, if they are part of Kindle Unlimited, I will RETURN those so I can get another book.
I get lost in my books though, I have them sorted by most recent so I never tend to see the older ones then by the time I go to look at them I’ve forgotten what they’re about. It’s not a good system. ?
I have a bunch of crap books I got for free or bought and hated. I have no idea how to get rid of them): the kindle was a gift so I got no instruction.
@Andrea I keep my 500+ ‘to read’ kindle books on a spreadsheet. Sorted by author, by title and by genre. So I try to read around my backlist if I can. I have just deleted all the daily and weekly emails as I was too drawn to read the latest download!
@Andrea I’m retired and missed my many spreadsheets. It made me happy sorting them out. Sometimes I ask hubby for a number between one and five hundred and use his random selection for my next read. It still gives me the choice of three titles ???
When you remove them off your kindle they’re still available in your kindle account forever if you want to send it back to your kindle to re-read! Once I finish a book I remove it from my kindle to free up space, but I know they’re always available in my amazon account if I want to read again.
I add them to my ‘Read’ collection and then remove them from the device. I don’t delete them as then you don’t get the warning from Amazon if you have already bought them.
@Rosa if you have a kindle, it doesnt actually delete. It just removes from the physical device. I’m scared for other e readers if they are forever gone after being physically removed ?
There is a auto delete you can get is of anything that has been open for a month, 3 months or 6 months. Occasionally I clear it out that way I don’t manually delete
Surely you can’t delete once purchased. You will always have the right to access it again. I suppose they sit in your account but you archive them back to cloud
That’s a cheek then if amazon would be allowed to charge you again if youve paid previously but I suppose if you just don’t want it you should be able to delete it
Delete from the device so there is room for more. But they are always in your Kindle Library through Amazon. Even when you delete them from your novice the thumbnail still appears on your device so you remember you own it.
If you buy them from Amazon they are always on your account. So you can delete from Kindle but download again for free if you want to read again or send them to someone else’s Kindle. ?
Cathie Armstrong if you select Library, you can long hold the book you want to remove and it’ll as a check mark to the book. You can then select the menu (three vehicle dots in the upper right) and you should have the option to “Remove Items”.
Keep. To quote Ron Weasley, “I’ve got about 500, meself.” I keep mine cuz I know I’ll wanna read it again and if I delete it, I’ll want to read it when it’s deleted ? Im a packrat I guess
I delete them. I very rarely read a book over again, unless it is exceptionally good. Same reason I borrow them from the library instead of buying them.
We created a kindle library amongst friends, so we can share the books, which has grown to 19 people over 4 years. So we delete from device and place back in cloud for the next person to read.
Only 10 adults can be on an account but unlimited number of devices is what I’m finding so I’m assuming they just keep hooking up their kindle to each others amazons ?
Very simple. Opened An amazon account with no banking details. Than each member donates gift voucher from their own account for annual ‘subscription fee’. Each person buys for his $60 ($5/month). All of share as library grows. Unlimited devices although only 6 can read the same book at a time
Keep
I delete mine but they stay on your amazon account forever unless you delete from there
Delete
Delete them
Delete from device but not account.
I have a read collection folder on my kindle and move them to there.

Delete , they stay in cloud
Keep, I even have a designated folder for them all ?
I have three folders on my kindle ‘Read’, ‘Nit Read’ and ‘Started’ (sometimes I start a book and if I’m not enjoying it I file it away and may go back to it.

Donated them to the patients library at your local hospital
How do you make folders on the kindle please. ?
Love to know as well

Never even considered deleting them!
Like others I delete from device once I’ve read but they are still on my account if I want them again x
Move to my Books I have read folder and then delete
I keep mine!
I only keep the ones I really enjoy
I delete the one I could not get into and the rest are in my cloud account archived

I keep mine whereas I used to get rid of all the books I used to buy
I keep mine in folders by year read
How do you do that???
@Marie from the main screen you need to create a new collection – name it by year then I save each read book in the year
Hold your finger on the book read and gives you the option to save book to collection
Thank you xx
F
I store them in a program called Calibre
I do the same! ?
Depends. I Love to re read books, sometimes more than once so those stay, crap books definitely get deleted.
I put the books I have read in the cloud.
Delete
How do you delete?
For fiction I delete them from my device, still available in cloud if I want to reread. For non fiction save in collections
I’ve made a ‘books I’ve read folder!’
same, but delete them all probably once a year x
@Lisa I keep them so when I’m asked for book recommendations I can remember what I’ve read!
@Lisa mine is years old. I’m waiting for it to die ?
I will be devastated when it goes, it will be like losing a member of the family! ?
Delete hate clutter lol ?
Same here
Keep if i enjoyed, delete if it was rubbish x
Move them all into a ‘books read’ folder and then delete them all once in a while x
Delete
Delete but that’s because I borrow them from the library.
Delete I’m not a ‘re reader x
If I delete I’d forget that I e read it & could end up ordering again. Do I put it in a category called “Read”
Just click “remove from device” Pam, then if you try to order something you have already read it will tell you that you already have the book in your library.
Delete
Keep- I paid for them. I only delete if Ive tried a section free before I buy and decide not to buy it x
@Angela they stay in your cloud, they dont actually delete
The kindle is your library.
Keep x
To keep it clutter free once Ive read them I put them in to folders e.g. thrillers, true life, non-fiction. If they are in a folder Ive read them if they are not then they are on the to read list x
This is what I do too!! ?
You all deleting things hurts my soul. ? I just remove them from my home screen and live happily ever after. That way I can easily read them again if I wish. Now, if they are part of Kindle Unlimited, I will RETURN those so I can get another book.
Keep!!!!!
I never knew how to delete but I do delete the ones I’ll never read again. I mainly borrow from overdrive.. so no point in keeping them.
Put them in the cloud…forever
Delete! I have about 900 books on my kindle right now so no room for keeping.
my Paperwhite will hold 4000+ books.
@Sharyn I have the paperwhite too so that’s good to know.

Mary just hold your finger down on the book and a menu should come up – one of the options will be remove from device click that to get rid of them.
Sharyn that is seriously organised I try to put them in a separate list on my goodreads but I’m way too lazy!
@Andrea I’m retired and missed my many spreadsheets. It made me happy sorting them out. Sometimes I ask hubby for a number between one and five hundred and use his random selection for my next read. It still gives me the choice of three titles ???

I mostly buy them from Amazon so I delete from my device (Kindle), and they live happily ever after, easily accessible, in the cloud on Amazon.
I add them to my ‘Read’ collection and then remove them from the device. I don’t delete them as then you don’t get the warning from Amazon if you have already bought them.
Good to know
I’ve started deleting them.
I just remove them from my device and in reading this thread am shocked at how many people delete them. ?
@Rosa if you have a kindle, it doesnt actually delete. It just removes from the physical device. I’m scared for other e readers if they are forever gone after being physically removed ?
@Holly yes, but there are Kindle folk who go the extra steps to delete them permanently. I’m just not sure why! ?
Delete from device but still in my library to call back anytime. Once purchased it is mine forever!
There is a auto delete you can get is of anything that has been open for a month, 3 months or 6 months. Occasionally I clear it out that way I don’t manually delete
Surely you can’t delete once purchased. You will always have the right to access it again. I suppose they sit in your account but you archive them back to cloud
I think if you delete through Amazon, it’s gone forever.
@Cathie as far as i know it is.
No. They just go on the Cloud.
@Morag I admit I haven’t tested it, but I know when I delete it through Amazon, I get a warning that it will be gone forever.
That’s a cheek then if amazon would be allowed to charge you again if youve paid previously but I suppose if you just don’t want it you should be able to delete it
@Cathie That’s odd. I have the Paperwhite. When I click on Remove From Device, it goes into my Cloud.
@Morag Right. “Remove from device” sends to the cloud. But if you go into your amazon account and manage devices, you can delete it entirely.
@Cathie Ah. Ok. Probably not a wise move for a hoarder like me, lol. ??
Delete from Kindle but keep in my Calibre library.
Delete from the device so there is room for more. But they are always in your Kindle Library through Amazon. Even when you delete them from your novice the thumbnail still appears on your device so you remember you own it.
I keep them, but I don’t have any storage issues.
I transfer to the Cloud.
if I need storage, I delete them. plus they don’t work anymore if they are rentals from e-library, so then I delete them for sure.
If you buy them from Amazon they are always on your account. So you can delete from Kindle but download again for free if you want to read again or send them to someone else’s Kindle. ?
Yes, but I’m taking about deleting directly from my amazon account. I can’t seem to “delete” from my Kindle, so I go in through my amazon account.
You can delete from your Kindle, still be on the iCloud.
@Cathie why can’t you delete from Kindle? You can also install the Kindle app on your phone and delete from there.
@Jef kindle doesn’t offer the option to delete on the the app.
Cathie Armstrong if you select Library, you can long hold the book you want to remove and it’ll as a check mark to the book. You can then select the menu (three vehicle dots in the upper right) and you should have the option to “Remove Items”.
I delete them if they were free books and I did not like the. Otherwise I put all my ebooks into categories so I know where to find them.
Delete them
Keep
If I don’t love them, I delete them. If I like them then I keep them…but I’m not sure why!? I never re-read them ?
I keep most of them. I can reread down the road just as I do my paper versions…cause I forget I read it….lol
I archive them.
I have collections with the year Ive read the book. I put it in that then delete it off my kindle. Anything I havent read stays.
Keep. To quote Ron Weasley, “I’ve got about 500, meself.” I keep mine cuz I know I’ll wanna read it again and if I delete it, I’ll want to read it when it’s deleted ? Im a packrat I guess

I borrow most from the library and keep those I buy.
I delete them. I very rarely read a book over again, unless it is exceptionally good. Same reason I borrow them from the library instead of buying them.
It doesn’t delete them. It just moves them off the device back to your digital orders on Amazon, right?
@Pam yes, you click remove from device and it stays in the cloud
But you can go to your account on Amazon and pull up your content and completely delete them from there
I keep them. Don’t know why I do, but I do.
Delete
I use overdrive and they delete when they are due back.
I switch them out bc of kindle unlimited
How do you delete the damned things?
Have to delete in your account on amazon under manage devices
Delete usually
I put mine in the cloud, but it is possible to permanently delete them. Some real favorites I keep handy.
So, how delete?
@Don just press on it for a few seconds and delete should come up
@Gail it does. But it just goes to cloud.
@Don oh ok sorry not sure
@Gail yes you can delete from device or delete permanently
Usually it gives you the option of deleting from the cloud or just the Kindle.
I keep them. I’m a kindle hoarder! I do read many of them again though
I keep everything. Ever.
Deleted
Keep on cloud

Keep I re read

I keep them – especially if it’s in a series, I may want to re-read the previous book right before the new book comes out. That way I have a refresher
I delete most of them. I keep the ones I think I may want to re-read.
Keep some delete some

I keep them unless they weren’t good. I read them again a few years later.

Keep some to reread and delete rest
Keep them. I’ve only used about 2% of my storage with hundreds of books. No need to delete.
Keep if I enjoyed them.
Keep them all
I delete them if I didn’t like, but keep it if I did
Keep, so I can always check if the title is familiar and I’ve already read.

We created a kindle library amongst friends, so we can share the books, which has grown to 19 people over 4 years. So we delete from device and place back in cloud for the next person to read.
Can you explain how you are able to share with friends, please.
Good idea!!
You don’t have to delete from one kindle for it to ha accessed by another kindle. I read the same book on both my kindles all he time
How do you do that? That’s super cool.
@Carolyn that I understand I just can’t understand how a library can be shared across 19 people x
@Jef I presume they are both registered in her name. I’m interested to know how to share with 19 people though x
Don’t think you can do that in the uk ??
Only 10 adults can be on an account but unlimited number of devices is what I’m finding so I’m assuming they just keep hooking up their kindle to each others amazons ?
@Elaine I suppos3 we could share emails and passwords with family x
my kids kindles are registered to my account. Very clever cos who pays for the books??!!
