I started to read it but really did not like it and so put it down. I know a lot of people who loved it though!

That is my all time favorite book. Whats funny is, the first time I tried reading it it quit after 30 pages because I thought it was incredibly boring. About a year later I tried reading it again and fell in love with it. I re-read it almost yearly.

***Spoiler*** The husband is a power hungry a**. The woman was innocent, then dependant in him, then(imo) stuck around too long…worst case scenario…she let it happen.

Read it when Oprah first put it on the list. I enjoyed it, but years have passed so I can’t pass a test on it.

Agreed! Should have ended way sooner than it did. It dragged on for a while at the end.

I thought it was good until the end. Kingsolver did a great job having her characters convey her messages. Then, in the last or second last chapter the voices were not that of her characters. It was her voice. The tone was different. And instead of subtle, she hit you over the head from a soapbox with her message.

not what I expected – a good read – but I’d had it recommended to me and it wasn’t that good.

I find her pretentious and entitled. Comes out in her writing.

Another fav Kingsolver of mine is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It’s non-fiction but funny – the turkey sex is worth the read!
