My sister has been collecting Little Golden Books for my nephew since before he was born. He’s one now and has acquired quite a book collection for someone who can’t even read yet!

Read whatever interests him. You are laying a foundation for lifelong learning. When my son (13 now) was little he loved board books about trucks, construction vehicles., and the ever popular school buses. He also loved If you Give a Pig a Pancake. He love the cause and effect of that book. Just keep reading . I still read to my 13 year old. He enjoys Harry Potter now.

When I was a kid, I adored ‘the tiger who came to tea’ I had the book for so long that most of the pages were taped together to hold the book together.

I’d say whatever picks their interest. When I was a child I used to love fairy tales, so my mum bought me all the books on fairy tales she could find. And then when I was a bit older, she used to take me to the bookstore and would let me pick freely books according to my age. And now that I’m an adult, I always recommend Dr. Seuss for children, they’re amazing and I wish I would’ve had them as a kid. And Dahl too, his stories are great for kids.

I LOVE the Llama Llama books. I used to work at a daycare in the two-year-old room. Other books would always start to bore them, but Llama Llama NEVER did. I wouldn’t have survived that class without the help of Llama Llama. The book was so torn to shreds by the time that I left the Daycare, that I was able to take it home with me. (They have plenty of new books now.) It’s taped in so many places, but was definitely well loved. I love that keepsake. ❤

I am currently collecting all my favourite childhood books for my daughter. She is only 2 but by the time she is reading, there will be so many titles for her to explore. Right now though she loves the BabyLit collection. Have you seen those? They are so amazing.

Also board books are great when they’re real young so you can let them look at them on their own and not have to worry about them destroying them.

Blueberries for Sal. My dad used to read this to us all the time and it’s still one of my favorite books. Also Cloudy with a chance of meatballs and Alexander and the no good, terrible, horrible very bad day. As you rkid gets older I would recommend reading him Series of Unfortunate Events, this was another one my dad always read to us (one or two chapters a night) and these are the 4 books/series I can really attribute my love of reading to!
